Enough track and points to finish the first half of the storage yard, and a power pack to work it.

Well, found out where my Tomytec TM-05R had got to. Her Majesty's Highwaymen had grabbed it, had the ransom demand this morning. £3.73 VAT is fair enough, but £8 to collect that is obscene. Left the ransom amount in a used note/coins at the post office and the kidnapped parcel was released.

They didn't get the Kato book case for my C57 + coaches, or the pack of wheels/couplers/pantographs from Modeltrainplus though. The Omocha train is now functional, although testing will have to wait a while as I don't feel like getting a load of track out at the moment.

Yep, I've seen some people try to justify it which is even worse!

What particularly annoys me is that there's no simple way to pre-pay it. I wouldn't have minded paying that extra £3.73 VAT when I ordered but being stung for the best part of £12 on arrival is appalling.

I quite fancy the two new Tomytec 105 Series units but can't afford to complete them before the dread referendum. Quite tempted to just buy them as static models for now and wait for the exchange rates to calm down a bit before buying the rest.

We all know we take a chance on customs when buying from abroad, most of my orders are usually in excess of £100 so I always factor in an extra £35 for the charges, but to have to pay a handling charge aswell really pees me off,the only consolation is that we just can t buy most of it from over here, and if we could it would still be more expensive than buying from abroad and to be fair they re very efficient,I ve ordered stuff from Nariichi at MTP and from eBay in this country and MTP has arrived first! Lol

Good idea with the 105's mate.

I ve put some extra sidings in and that's what I m going to do,trains now to fill up the sidings and motorise them at leisure.

Speaking of customs, guess where my Kato elevated station bits and pieces are now ;)

Also, really, REALLY tempted to pre-order the Athearn big boy in N-scale ...

Handling fee for any customs charges (with the right choice of retailer none) payable to Japan Post is 250 yen, payable at the door...

The Omocha train is currently circulating on a test track (uneven figure eight with a mix of 150mm and 183mm curves, and a couple of sidings using 150mm points). It seems quite happy after my usual drops of oil on armature/worm bearings and a couple of hours running in time. Looks a bit eyeball-searing next to my KuMoHa12 and KuMoNi13!

Somewhat counter-intuitively it needed the longest clip-on end pieces in the TM-05 box. Those plus the short coupler extension blocks and it's quite happy on R150 with a reasonable gap between the two cars

HI all.

I just got my JAM 2015 magazine and just wanted to say thanks to the people below for the information:

Noticed this at the local bookstore- it's a special edition magazine about the 2015 JAM convention, from the publishers of RM Models.  Lots of pics of layouts-  a few very good modular layouts and dioramas in HO and N that are very prototypical, not just the roundy-roundies with lots of viaducts and minimal scenery.

The above one posted in other topic :http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/11086-jam-convention-magazine/?hl=%2Bjam+%2B2015

Hi, you have some great magazines there. I noticed that " Kokusai Tetsudo Mokei Convention 2015" is available on amazon.jp

Just search the title 第16回国際鉄道模型コンベンション2015公式記録集 (NEKO MOOK).

I managed to order books/magazines directly from amazon.co.jp.

It works fine. I always have to prepay the import taxes when ordering, but that way your parcel doesn't get stuck at the customs control and gets delivered faster.

For other things, I use Tenso.com, which is the same company as Buyee, to order on amazon.co.jp. Works fine too.

Here some pics:

Notice the control board on the top right hand size

I will try to make a "hardcore" translation (i.e. using the computer) of these pages later one.

Cheers,

Missing skirt, gotta do something but this.

I just realised Hachioji is a great place for me to model, since there is the Chuo main line, Chuo Rapid line, Sagami Line, Hachiko Line and Yokohama line, by which I have the trains for these ~  :)

Apart from the general shadiness of the area, there is a great variety of trains passing through there. Next to regular freight to Hachioji from the west side of the Chuo Main line, you can even throw in the occasional Tokyu transfer train hauled by a DE10 to/from Nagatsuta on the Yokohama line!

Jr,

Where did you source the paper and the paper craft stuff?

Hi Jeff (realised your name is mis-spelled in your message!  :P)

It's from China, but we all know the Japanese paper crafts were bought online from Japan Paper structures. They probably bought the data and printed out and sold them in kits.

As for the concrete bridge, I am starting to think they might have been produced in a English-speaking country and the same applied (data bought and printed out and sold as kits), as the instructions were in perfect English and there were other paper kits that were European era.

Oh good! I have a DE10 and a Tokyu train, the Shibuya Hikarie. Can that do?  :)

Out of interest, what does the general shadiness of the area involve?

You say that... The migration of the low-tier Kabukichō gang members to prefectural border areas in the early 2000s (to improve tourism in the central metropolitan area), has increased shadow activities in the area of Hachiōji. The reason for their move to these areas is that if they are caught in a chase with the law, they can easily escape to Kanagawa, or even Yamanashi. This was also a problem in Machida and the borders of Sagamihara-shi, but the locals and local authorities there have managed to sweep most of the major streets clean of these folk. Still, there are some leftovers lingering at night.

eerrr... Middle cars? Drats...

On transport, the whole train is split in half and the front cars are usually coupled in the middle. This example is just half a formation on the way (don't ask me why).
