ToniBabelony
That's an awesome 20 Series there! I think maybe all Japanese model train collectors should at least own one of these bonnet nose type trains, or at least a derivation of that. Ah... Sometimes, I just want to throw out everything I have and go for 70s Tōhoku JNR. But then I realise I switch my interests every week and give up again xD 3 Link to comment
serotta1972
I will start looking for one tonight, I've been eyeing these trains and this was the spark I needed to fully ignite my interest. Thanks Suica and Toni, everyone needs a little nudge every now then. 4 Link to comment

Martijn Meerts
Well, just ordered a couple of Kato station related buildings which I need in order to start designing my main station track layout. Couldn't resist adding a couple of Gundam kits though ;) 2 Link to comment
Alemino
i got 2 packages this week first one from japan, Mandarake containing: a Greenmax J.N.R. Type Kumoyuni81 Oito Line Color (with motor) that will pull my other Kumoyuni in green-orange color ( note the face!! :) ) added to it was a Tomy, what looks like a special set with a ED75 and containers last but not least, after my vacation in japan and 1188 km on it a KATO 6 cars set Shinkansen E5 then the second delivery, not japanese, so excuse me for the excursion. a Fleischmann Re 4/4 (or Re420) wearing the special Gotthard Base Tunnel livery, which is set to be open in few weeks, and for us Swiss an historic milestone. The longest train tunnel with 57 km length. probably getting too a RE460 in the same livery either in N or H0 or both ;) 3 Link to comment

Welshbloke
Kato 10-210 case arrived for my Kokudens: I'm getting good at drawing the Japanese character for "Series" on the labels! This now has "103系 国電" written there. 3 Link to comment
beakaboy
Just got this for NZ$10 from a local auction site. In very good condition with lighting installed. Will be added to my Tomix 100 series 7 car set 3 Link to comment
Welshbloke
Sometimes bargains like that pop up (usually because nobody else has a use for them). I think I paid about the same for each of my Tomix 8835 add-on coaches for my 500 Series, could do with another pair but doubt I'll ever see any. Unfortunately I've not found any Kato KuHa 153s or powered MoHa 152s for sane money, or indeed any random Kato 115 Series cars yet. Link to comment

The funny thing was that the same seller had a Tomix 100 series Shinkansen 6 car set for sale a week earlier ( couldn't afford it at the time)He obviously didn't realise the items could be combined. He is selling a lot of various items from his friends deceased estate. More items still to be listed!! Link to comment
serotta1972
I got me my first N scale Japanese freight cars in anticipation of the JNS World Tour Container. :) Oh man, not another Japanese train category! I will do my darn best to not get Koki crazy. 1 Link to comment

I will do my darn best to not get Koki crazy. Koki crazy is not going to be your problem, given the period you have chosen to model you have a far more vast array of wagon types to collect, Wamu, Wara, Waki, Remu, Resa, Tumu, Kamu,Tora, Tiki, Sera, Seki, Hoki, Taki etc, Koki's will be the least of your worries. 1 Link to comment

For example, they offered the Twilight Express and the Cassiopeia in the usual "loco plus two coaches, then a pair of add-on sets in book cases" format, but the 92332 Asakaze was a case of "Here's the loco and two coaches, here's a diagram of the other stock you'll need, good luck. P.S. we stopped making two of the three types some time ago and won't be re-releasing, also we don't make a book case with a loco-sized slot and ten coach spaces"... I have the pack, the KaNi for the tail end of the train, and a couple of 8517 Suhanefu 15s doing their best to look like 25 series. Yes, I know I can probably buy one from Casco but it's still an annoying example of poor planning. They already make a suitable foam insert which they use on other sets like the Twilight, all they'd have to do is offer it with an empty case. Meanwhile my 500 Series fits neatly into the two book cases provided with the four car add-on sets, with space for all sixteen coaches. Edited May 15, 2016 by Welshbloke Link to comment

The Tomix 100 series is an older model #92624 in a bookcase, but only room for the 7 cars. When I get to visit Japan eventually, I will be buying a lot of bookcases to bring home for all my orphan pieces. I have placed most of my Japanese sets and pieces in clear plastic storage boxes with lids that clip on and can also be stacked under the layout. Keeps them dust free in my garage. Link to comment
Guest keio6000
Received today from Nariichi-san (modeltrainsplus): 1. Greenmax Odakyu 1000 - 8 car set 2. Kato Keikyu 2100 8-car set I want to make a special thanks to nariichi-san - he sent the pacakge to me in the USA where for some reason the postman did not leave a 'tried to deliver' note. After some time it was returned to Japan as we did not know about it. I then asked him to send it to me in the UK, which he did so. It arrived with no problems. Nariichi-san's customer service is superb and I highly recommend modeltrainsplus for your japan train needs! Now, about the models: 1. Odakyu 1000 I think this is a very important Odakyu train and I am surprised MicroAce, etc have not done it yet. However, GM is in kind of a renaissance right now, so it is good if they did this. Out of the box, however, there are a few things which make you question their somewhat high price (not as high as MA, but still quite high). For example, the unpainted ventilation / aircon units at the top look very cheap and unfinished. For a model of this price, GM has to do better or at least use higher quality plastic to make it look better. The second problem on this particular model is that there are a lot of add-on parts that should be on by default. This includes the critical railings at the front that really give the 1000 a lot of its look (see on the photo above they are not on). And yes, the side destination stickers are not included, which is crazy and cheap on GM's part. 2. Keikyu 2100 Kato has raised their prices slightly recently, but who can blame them? Again, I did not run this yet but from a visual and feel standpoint this model is near perfect. Very well built, TN couplers, and just overall a great quality feel. Really super. the only thing keeping this superb model from being perfect in my view are that kato continues to use stickers for head destination boards. They should switch to pre-painted swappable plastic pieces like tomix. This would really be a lot better. In an absolute ideal world, this would include the side destination signs too, but that's probably asking too much. That, and they of course need to make every motor car dcc compatible (im not surethis one is).. Edited May 16, 2016 by keio6000 6 Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
My Kato C50 finally went through customs. Looks really nice, but haven't had the time to try running it yet. My Kato overhead station set and some platforms and other bits and pieces have also been shipped. Don't expect those in for another week or 2 though, was sent using EMS, and that always gets stuck in customs here :) 1 Link to comment
Welshbloke
Think my Tomytec chassis must have got tangled up in the post-Golden Week backlog, as for some reason the Kato R150L point and lever I ordered three days later has managed to overtake it and arrived today. Haven't tried it yet but this is the extra part I needed to build one of the CV track plans from the Kato site. Link to comment
