On 2 of the 3 right turnouts. No problem on the left ones. I tried to adjust the distance between wheels (because it's narrow than Kato), but with no success (it derails even with the same distance as Kato). Link to comment
disturbman
Sounds and looks like a similar reliability issues than the Kato #4 turnouts are known for. Maybe the same solution could apply. Edited March 21 by disturbman 1 Link to comment

Maybe the same solution could apply. It's not, but thanks a lot for your advice. In fact, there is already a "cavity" in the rail on these turnouts. But problem solved, with a friend of mine. The problem was here : A delicate use of a file, and voilà, no more problems. 4 Link to comment
cteno4
Nice work on the point. Yes first thing to do is run your finger over all the bits of rail and look for any end that might be a bit sharp sticking out as thats all it needs in the flangeway to pop a wheel. also sometimes the blades are just a bit out of vertical alignment and carefully tweak with a pair of thin flat nosed pliers can get them into good alignment. But it is delicate work! jeff 3 Link to comment
mr bachmann
I have noticed that Kato track has sharp rail ends , Bachmann EZ on the other hand are smooth dont know about the turnouts , my Kato number 4’s give trouble untill modified, the new layout will be Tomix track . (Greenmax tamper on its way - wish me luck 😁) 1 Link to comment
cteno4
Most Kato rail ends are fine, but some here and there have a bit of a sharp edge to them and you find them just running your finger over joints. Couple of quick passes of a fine file fixes them right up. #4 points are a big finicky to get good but they are compact for a regular point and not one of the ultra compacts points. RS18U
So received my August (I think) PJ order. The KiHa 47's were a pre-order hence the delay, and the available date for these changed a couple of times too. Last update was due at the end of March but they beat that by a week or so. Took 7 days from shipping to arrival at our local post office (most of that at Osaka airport according to the JPS tracking), and I picked it up this morning. And paid the GST/PST that always gets charged which is why its pick-up. Tomix 98153 KiHa 47 8000 and 9000 set. When I saw this go on pre-order I knew I had to have it since we rode on a set like this last March from Kagoshima to Kaimon return (47-9048/47-8123) . Lost of parts to add, and rub on decals so I can get the actual unit numbers we had. Fortunately I have some good enough photos to figure out what parts/decals are needed. Will probably do a separate post on that as there is a lot more than any of the other trains I have bought. I was worried about the colour as the prototype is very much a creamy (dirty?) white while a couple of photos I saw of the model showed a very bright white. But they are indeed that off-white I remember. Kato 23-200 station. This will be modified for 3 tracks/2 platforms for the portable layout I will work on this summer. And the PJ bonus this time was a little packet of tissues. 4 Link to comment

cteno4
Yeah tissue packets are a traditional japanese hand out from way back. Odder to ship that internationally! jeff Link to comment
RS18U
I have had erasers and a fan, but this is the first time for tissues. Just came back from a grocery run, should have had them there looking at the prices 😢 Link to comment

Kamome
I have a feeling Tomix moved production back to Japan some years ago due to the increasing cost of Chinese manufacture although a good portion of their HO stuff is made in S. Korea. Link to comment
tripel7
Just completed the full E353 set by ordering 10-1835 from J-Scale, since it kept nagging at me that it wasn't the full set😅 Link to comment
