Fancied one of the new Tomix EF66-0s with the large coolers on the roof. Couldn’t quite decide which colour I wanted and settled for both. 

7159 represents EF66 27 “Nina” (2-ni, 7- nana) which had a stint as a display in Kyoto Railway museum. 

 

7160 is of the later updated ones with the removed grill and slightly renewed paint scheme.

 

PC6062 cooler parts come with 2 sets of aircon units and a drilling guide that fits the roof beautifully. 

Kind of feel this detail could have been included with the locos, as it was present on all of the loco numbers that these products will allow you to model. 

 

They're both nice looking models, lots of detail parts to add. Still surprised Tomix haven’t reduced the size of their take on rapido couplers. They’re enormous things. They include the TN knuckle and also a scale size dummy which is a welcome addition. Might see how it looks on the front end and i’ll add a Kato knuckle to the hauling end. 

I must admit, I’ve never been drawn to many N scale Tomix locos but these are certainly worth a look. They need a little modification to add coolers and more appropriate couplers in my case. I also wish n scale air hoses were a thing from manufacturers. The white metal Ginga models ones are like gold dust despite many Youtubers having a seemingly constant supply.

You can use the Recolor adaptor for that, TX091 iirc. Then you can plop in whatever Kato knuckle you want. I use the EF66 so I can haul freight cars with GM couplers.

I've been eyeing the Tomix EF66 Ref. 7166 to have something close to the Renfe Class 251, but I've been adding and removing it from my wishlist just because of a possible Kato version.

 

Do these get re-released often?

😂 yesterday from marketenterprice....

 

I was the second bidder 😋, a little bit too yellowed end frames but a good choice (maybe for a little more - 6/7000jpy you can find one Kato 100 in better conditions, just be patient)
