1954G
Quick question about the 253系 NEX. I'm aware that the 253系 operated as a 3-car train, a 3+3 (early to mid 1990s), a 6-car train, and a 6+3. But during its years of service as the Narita Express, was a 253系 3+3+3 formation ever formed? Wikipedia (by way of Google Translate) seems to think so: 2009年4月時点で6両編成と3両編成が存在し、編成は下表のとおりである。E259系の投入前は3連+3連、3連+3連+3連、3連+3連+6連という編成で運行されていたが、E259系の投入後は6両編成のみの運用となり、6連単独または6連+6連の形で運行された。 But I haven't been able to find any pictures or videos of the Narita Express organized this way. Can anyone shed light on this? Thanks. Link to comment
kvp
They were used as 9 car sets while the 3+3=6 conversions were under way, so for a limited time only. This picture has 9 cars and i can count 3 red fronts facing the camera and 3 pantos on top: http://userdisk.webry.biglobe.ne.jp/006/566/61/N000/000/002/NEX19.jpg (you can also make out the front skirts) 1 Link to comment
1954G
They were used as 9 car sets while the 3+3=6 conversions were under way, so for a limited time only. Which is probably why I couldn't find any video of a 3+3+3 9-car set. Of course, I did find videos of this formation...on someone's n-gauge layout. Which wasn't enough to answer my question! :) Thanks for the help. Link to comment
