Where old trams go to die

To Hankai's credit, six sister cars (5 built in 1928 and one in 1931) are still in revenue service. Ride them while you can, they are real gems.  The later PCC style cars are also great, they ride like cadillacs with their aircushion suspensions.

When are the last of the old trams due to be withdrawn?

It was great to see them in service during my visit.

Imho they should just store them and maybe later sell them, since nowdays you can get quite good money for vintage trams in good condition. (and they seem structurally solid) For example San Fancisco bought a bunch of trams from all over the world for it's tourist streetcar line.

I have no idea, though their tourist value will likely keep at least a few in service indefinitely.

How knows?  Maybe they'll be like the Hiroden and use every tram without any retirements.  Just the older ones get used on special occasions or peak periods only.
