enodenlover
The first Japanese train I ever bought was back in 1982, when I found an ad in either Model Railroader or Railroad Model Craftsman advertising the then-current Endo catalog for sale. Back then Endo was producing a handful of all-metal body N scale trains along with their HO line. When I got the catalog one particular train immediately captured my heart so I ordered it even though I had no experience purchasing stuff from overseas. The train lived up to my expectations and still runs very nicely; it is the only piece from my original collection of Japanese equipment and structures that I didn't sell years ago. Just one little problem with it: it's 33 years later and I still have no idea what exactly this train is or where it operated, all I know is that it's either electric commuter or rapid transit and it went into service in 1979. It's a three car set, corrugated and unpainted except for a red band around the windows and the cab car ends are also red. The center car is the power unit and it has two small pantographs on it. The clear plastic windows are tinted blue which I don't think I've ever seen done before, and the car numbers on the sides are 3501, 3001 ( power car ) and 3002. Does anyone know anything about this train, especially where it operated? Bob Link to comment
miyakoji
Do you have a picture you can include? I'm sure we could identify it. Based on the numbers I'll guess Kintetsu 3000 series: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%BF%91%E9%89%843000%E7%B3%BB%E9%9B%BB%E8%BB%8A 1 Link to comment
enodenlover
Miyakoji, thanks so much for posting this. That's definitely my 'mystery train' and it's nice to be able to put an end to three decades+ of wondering just what I was running. I just found several videos on Youtube of the 3000s in action and it's easy to see why I fell in love with this train years ago. Sure glad I didn't sell this one off with my other trains since used Endo N scale stuff is nearly impossible to find online. Bob Edited March 8, 2015 by enodenlover Link to comment
Guest keio6000
I havent checked this particular one, but endou n scale items often go for crazy money in japan. If you have a contact to sell it for you on yahoo japan, you may want to consider it. Crazy money is inthe ballpark of usd 100 per car.. At least thats what the endou toei 10-000 goes for or thereabouts. Link to comment
enodenlover
Nice to know that my Kintetsu 3000 is so valuable but I'm not at all interested in parting with it. It's still my favorite among the new batch of trains I've recently bought although I wouldn't run back into a burning building to save it. After all I do have my priorities, in this case my skin.
