There's only one way the whole motor assy and connections can sit on the chassis, even the motor itself can only go one way, the contacts for the spring connections on the back are different heights and simply wouldn't work if somehow put the wrong way. Will report back when I've had a play with the magnets Link to comment
cteno4
Morcs, really don’t see how you could change the polarity of the wiring other than flipping the motor as from the couple of tomytec mechs I’ve torn apart it’s all hard wired strips for leads to the motor so no reversing possible there. you didn’t pull the motor apart, correct? jeff Link to comment

I stripped the whole thing back down, and although the poles on the motor are at offset heights, they are still at offset heights when you flip it over *face palm* Now I just have to figure out why 2 identical motors run at different speeds, or is this inconsistency normal with tomytec motors? brill27mcb
I have never seen a whole lot of speed variation between Tomytec power chassis of the same model type. Could it be added friction in the drive mechanism from not reassembling it quite right? I mean like a small alignment issue, a universal too far out on a shaft and binding slightly, or something like that. Some times some running will loosen up a chassis so that it runs better. cteno4
Cool, glad it’s working! im with rich on this I think it’s something with the drive train. As long as you didn’t do anything to the motor (like lube bearings) or get crap in an unsealed motor they should be ver similar. jeff Link to comment
Zeether
So I wasn't aware of this but they did Hankyu trains...I ended up getting two sets of 2300 series haha, dunno when or if I'll motorize them Link to comment
eldomtom2
Just to clarify something for me - so there are effectively two lines of Railway Collection trains, one sold in blind boxes and the other not? Link to comment
bill937ca
Haven't seen blind boxes for ages. Usually just individual release items. Link to comment
cteno4
Yes, they are both called the railway collection, but the blind sets have a volume number. There have been 33 volumes in the railway collection blind sets! Last one vol 33 out this June! If you buy the whole box of 10 you get one of each car in the set except if you get lucky on some that have a mystery car. But those usually are on the single car sets, I expect so you don’t blow a 2 car set. Some shops will sell individual blind single boxes and some will sell individual unblinded. cheers jeff Link to comment
katoftw
There's normally 1 or 2 blind box sets released per year. Link to comment
eldomtom2
Do you need to get a pantograph to motorise a Railway Collection model? I understand that the replacement pantographs are movable while the ones that come with the model are static, but does this actually matter if your layout doesn't have wires? Link to comment
brill27mcb
The earlier Railway Collection cars often came with a clunky looking one-piece pantograph. The replacement pans suggested with them are basically a detail upgrade to a better looking pan that can also be lowered and raised. More recent models have come with better looking pans to begin with, and their packaging does not suggest an upgrade replacement. As Bill says, it is up to your personal preference. eldomtom2
How do you fit the sprung coupling to a trailer car? Does anyone have any videos etc. showing this? Can't work out how to do it with the Keihan 600 and 700. Link to comment
