westfalen
Using the E655 for driver familiarisation runs? That's doing it in style. 1 Link to comment

Guest ___
Sort of a good question there on the E655, since its used for the Emperor's train, or rather one special car, and the rest of the time the E655 minus the Big Boy's car used for special excursions, is there any sort of schedule of runs or special events for the E655?. miyakoji
I assume that the E655 is intended for charter service on any electrified line, which is why it's AC/DC. Sometimes charters even cross JR borders, the Tenri-kyo services come to mind, it would be cool to see this in JR West territory. Link to comment
katoftw
Add a diesel loco to the front and it can go anywhere. Car 1 had a diesel generator to run the lights and climate control. 1 Link to comment
Sacto1985
I believe that the 655 Series EMU was designed so it can be used to transport the Emperor around Japan on relatively short distance trips from the Tokyo area. The Emperor and his entourage usually travels by chartered Shinkansen trainsets on longer trips Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
IIRC the 655 has been taken out at least as far as Nara on multiple occasions. Link to comment
Guest ___
Just once, I'd like to ride the 655 Link to comment
Mr Frosty
Stunning train. I love the forced perspective on the incline as well. Link to comment

Driver 2- I'll take the E655. Boss- Hell no! Driver 2- C'mon boss, I'll be good. Boss- Okay. But if you scratch it, you can tell the emperor. Edited March 27, 2015 by katoftw Link to comment
