Removing Tampo?

Hi,

Has anybody tried to remove tampo pad printed logos from N-gauge trains?  Specifically, i want to remove a logo from a microace silver train obviously without disurbing the underlying paint.  I am sure (well, pretty sure) that the tampo will come off with a q-tip and some acetone-based nail polish remover, but I have no idea if it will damage the paint underneath.

Thanks!

Definitely DO NOT use acetone on plastic! It will not only remove the paint but will damage the plastic surface.

A technique I've used that works well is to apply MicroSol decal setting solution to the tampo-printed lettering you want to remove. This solvent is made by Microscale, the US company that makes Microscale decals for models. Be sure you get Microsol, and NOT Microset which may be too strong for this purpose.

1. Apply solvent with either a small brush or a Q-tip using a dry brush technique: that is, don't flood the area with solvent, but apply it specifically to just the lettering to be removed.

2. Let this dry thorough.

3. Apply scotch tape and burnish it to the lettering to be removed.

4. Peel off the tape to lift off the lettering.

5. You may have to repeat this procedure to get all the lettering off, but it should not effect the underlying paint.

6. Rinse or wipe off the excess solvent and you should be good to go!

N.B.: If you have any doubts or want to check the paint first, try the technique on an unexposed area first to be sure what the results will be.

Hi--thanks!  I may try this.

it shouldn't be to anybody's surpirse that I want to do this to change microace's "tozai line" temporary eidan 8000 set into a regular hanzoumon line 8000.
