scott
Anybody have any interesting or favorite Japanese lines that are electrified, but more rural in character than the big-city/suburban lines? (Leaving out the rural sections of the shinkansen, I mean--more like local and regional lines.) I'd appreciate any suggestions--just looking for more pictures and ideas.... Link to comment
Guest ___
The Nippō Main Line, and Nichinan Line are my favs. Link to comment
Tenorikuma
The Sangi Railway in Mie is quite rural and is electric. Their yellow livery scheme is quite attractive. Exhaustive photos of and information regarding their rolling stock, both past and present, can be found here: http://www5c.biglobe.ne.jp/~n-craft/index/hobby/sangitop.htm Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
Their yellow livery scheme is quite attractive. It's like the Oscar-Meyer wienermobile, just reversed Link to comment

bill937ca
These are old, but you will find some interesting photos. Single track, simple overhead wire and wooden pole. Taken at the northen end of KOBE city in JAPAN.2005. Wooden poles are very common on rural lines. bikkuri bahn
Bill, that's a nice picture you found. I've wanted to check out the Kobe Railway for some time. I think I'll put it on my list of railways to see this summer. Thanks for the links. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
I was sufficiently intrigued by the picture to find out the location (with the help of Wikimapia and Google maps). It is a view from the platform end of Nirou Station on the Kobe Railway Mita Line. Google maps: http://www.google.co.jp/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=34.848422,135.226808&spn=0.004957,0.010418&z=17 Wikimapia: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=34.8481977&lon=135.2271026&z=18&l=0&m=a&v=2 Another picture, looking in the same direction as Bill's picture, but further back, and in late spring, with resulting greener vegetation: http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/surpass3/imgs/e/6/e65d51af.JPG And finally, a view of the station, a rather simple affair: http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/surpass3/imgs/4/e/4e9864f8.JPG Link to comment
