Mudkip Orange
The "this post was edited by" feature is a useful tool to inform people that responses to a particular post may not be based on what that post originally said. It doesn't need to show up for edits made a few seconds after the initial post. No one needs to know you made a typo somewhere. Given the discussion speed of this forum, a timeout of 5-10 minutes would be appropriate, after which the "Edited post" text can be appended. Link to comment
kvp
The common solution for this is that the edit shows up if the text is edited after a response has been added or after a certain timeout. On the other hand, showing up every time makes it sure that if someone only reads a post without answering to it, they will see that the content has been changed. The common workaround for extra labels is to show it only if another user has read the text before the edit. So a user can be allowed to silently edit or even delete a post as long as nobody else has seen it. When there is a preview feature (like here), the only case this could be remotely useful is when someone has a habit of posting too fast without checking the preview. (like me most of the time) Link to comment
