sunhuntin
well guys, im finally employed! so now i can turn my thoughts back to the track laying. im doing more research on whats needed and am thinking this set would be suitable as a start point: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10028875from there, i will get the left and right points. would the widest set shown here be the most suitable to lead into the 3 way, given no set of points will be powered? on a side note, did anyone else see this years thomas releases from bachmann? they are releasing narrow guage... HO models on N scale chassis. should be interesting! 1 Link to comment
katoftw
doesn't really matter that turnout you use. if you ain't gonna power them, then the top unpower one would be the way to go. just a note of caution on the box sets. if you are getting these shipped internationally, the box sets have high shipping rates. so on most occassions it is cheaper to buy the individual parts and pick a cheaper shipping option. JR 500系
As katoftw mentioned, the turnouts are basically the same, just powered and unpowered. I'm not sure if you still can get the unpowered turnout as it is quickly becoming a rarity (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10029053), and also the 'power option' set for powering the manual turnout if in the event you might want to power them instead (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10032058) is also becoming very hard to find. Please consider your options carefully, as I am stuck with 2 manual turnout switches without the option to turn them into powered turnouts now.... :( Link to comment

JR 500系
those cannot have the turnout mech installed? They can, but the turnout mech is out of stock everywhere I checked... http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10032058 Link to comment
katoftw
Oh well that sucks. I'd hazard a strong guess they will never be available again since the un powered points are discontinued. Link to comment
mrp
They can, but the turnout mech is out of stock everywhere I checked... http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10032058 You could try Hobby Plaza Bigman. http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/mokeiyabigman/item/tomix-0107/ Last week I purchased some 5559 TCS Sensor tracks and a (second) 92987 100 Series with power couplers from them that were both out of stock at the usual suspects. I was very happy with the service. The order was processed quickly - the price and shipping was reasonable - and emails I received with shipping details, etc were in English. Edit: Sorry - just noticed - they also say "sold out". Edited February 22, 2015 by mrp Link to comment
sunhuntin
thanks all. i was thinking from a space/clearance point of view, though i can always chuck a piece of straight in to increase the space. so hard to try and envision things without seeing them in person first, lol.
