Sacto1985
According to this article in response.jp: http://response.jp/article/2014/08/27/230871.html The Hokuriku Shinkansen service between Tokyo and Kanazawa starts on 14 March 2015. Note that the limited-stop Kagayaki train does not stop at Takasaki Station, kind of unusual since almost all Shinkansen trains stop at Takasaki now (with the exception of one Toki train service that travels between Tokyo and Niigata non-stop). Once the Hokuriku Shinkansen service starts, there will be a number of changes to train service in the Hokuriku region. The Thunderbird and Shirasagi trains will now terminate at Kanazawa. Service between Kanazawa and Toyama will be replaced by the new Tsurugi "shuttle" Shinkansen service. There will be more express services between Fukui and Kanazawa plus the equivalent of a Home Liner service in the mornings and evenings. Between Jōetsumyōkō and Niigata Stations, there will be a new limited express Shirayuki service that will use E653 trainsets. Edited August 28, 2014 by Sacto1985 1 Link to comment
Shinkansenrailfan
So there is actually a service that skips Omiya? Link to comment
Sacto1985
So there is actually a service that skips Omiya? One Toki train between Tokyo and Niigata goes non-stop between the two cities--the total travel time is one hour 38 minutes. You can see the video of this nonstop trip here: Edited August 29, 2014 by Sacto1985 Link to comment
kvp
This seems to be the same route looking at the other side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysAOeiB9I_I It would be super if someone made videos with 3 cameras, one looking forward above the cab and two looking at the sides. The views could be joined for a 180 panoramic view, that could be rotated freely. It would feel like riding on top of the front car... Link to comment
Sacto1985
kvp, an interesting tidbit about that video you referenced: note it goes from really nice weather between Tokyo and Takasaki to a snowstorm as the train emerges out of the tunnels as it travels between Nagaoka and Niigata. Densha
Here a pic of the new ET122 series for the Echigo-Tokimeki Railway Company: http://www.asahi.com/articles/ASGBW34JFGBWUOHB004.html The ET122 has wave stickers on it and if I understand it correctly it will run on a line along the coast. The E127's transferred from JR East will have mountain stickers, because, well, it runs through the mountains. (I guess?) (https://www.echigo-tokimeki.co.jp/) I find the name of the company and stock really strange. The railway's name means something like "Exciting Echigo Railway Company" and ET122 reminds me of "ET" (you know, the movie with the flying bicycle and stuff). ice
In Germany many series are called ET.... as ET stands for Elektrischer Triebwagen what means electrical power car. Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
I hope those get released by Kato. I mean, I'll buy the tomytec versions, but still... Will be interesting to see what becomes of that JRW piece of the Oito line. It's sort of an island now... Link to comment
JR 500系
It looks like a cross between the 223 series and a Kiha-40... Strange looking... 2 Link to comment
