Japanese mid-20th C piers

Trix has announced this (due in the next month or so), and I wondered if there were ever piers like this in Japan?

 

Or - is it strictly a northern European style?

 

 

 

I particularly like this sort of crane, where one rail was mounted on the wall of the warehouse, and believe this was also used in North America..

 

 

 

As far as I can tell, there are no other kits of industrial piers / marine warehouses in N scale, so it would save a lot of scratchbuilding - although would require serious back-dating of anything around it.
