Till the end of New Year we had no snow, but now we have so much and even -20 degrees is coming up this weekend 🙂

My Dad lives in the Kaliningrad oblast and says that all of the old Soviet sleepers have been repainted to the new RZD paint scheme. What about the Baltics? Are there any of the old Soviet green sleepers left?

Ours as well were painted in new color scheme in 2008-2009 year. And I think we don't have any sleepers left already. Only EMU and DMU trains and some of the carriages as sleepers but they are with seats.

@BalticRailways, I’m aware that the recent steam fan trip in Kaliningrad was the first in twenty years. Are there any operating steam locomotives in Lithuania?

Unfortunately we don't have any... Also I think there are no engineers left who would be able to control a steam locomotive, probably.

 

I know about the steam locomotive which is now working in Kaliningrad. It was transported through Lithuania in April if I remember good. But sadly it was transporter within the night time...

Standard gauge freight terminal opens in Lithuania

 

LITHUANIA: The Kaunas Intermodal Terminal opened to commercial freight traffic on July 19, with Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė amongst the guests at a ceremony welcoming the arrival of a 1 435 mm gauge train loaded with containers and semi-trailers from the Netherlands.

 

Work began in spring 2019 to modernise the rail network around Kaunas to enable standard gauge trains from Poland to reach the terminal at Palemonas and to accommodate the future standard gauge main line to Latvia and Estonia, which is being developed as the Rail Baltica Global Project.
