marknewton
I started annual leave on Friday, so I celebrated by making a long overdue visit to my club. I took some fairly ordinary video of my Kato D51s and Tenshodo C57 running on our US-themed layout with my son's iPod - so please excuse the poor quality. https://www.flickr.com/photos/94424961@N00/14472590415/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/94424961@N00/14472601455/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/94424961@N00/14472573335/ Cheers, Mark. Bernard
Mark - really impressive....love the scenery on your club layout, looks very life-like! 1 Link to comment
marknewton
Thanks Bernard. Most of the work was done by one member who particularly enjoys doing scenery. But some of the layout is showing it's age, so work will start soon on refreshing the scenery with new materials such as static grass. All the best, Mark. Link to comment

Mudkip Orange
The Rix 1930's highway overpass, never goes out of style. 1 Link to comment
marknewton
This is what the layout currently looks like: http://www.imra.org.au/kelly.html Cheers, Mark. 4 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Excellent setup there, and in a style (generic middle America circa 1950's) that emphasizes the rolling stock and immediate railroad infrastructure rather than drawing the viewer's eyes away from the trains which cluttered scenery can do. By replacing the off-line structures, you can even replicate roughly a Japanese single track non-electrified mainline or secondary mainline. 1 Link to comment
marknewton
I'm glad you like it bb. When the layout was being planned and developed there were many discussions about what we didn't want the layout to look like, and the result has been something everyone has been happy with. I absolutely agree with your comment about cluttered scenery. I've seen too layouts where the trains appear to have been added to a scenic diorama as an afterthought rather than the central feature. As for replicating a Japanese scene, I've been tempted to make a small section of portable catenary/overhead wiring to set up on the bridge approach spans for photos or videos. :) All the best, Mark. keitaro
I agree with the scenery. hard to do if you want to do the city though haha :) i guess a matter of having the line as close to the front and the larger buildings behind. one thing i could say though is the bridge does look great but maybe missing a little maintenance shed. to the rear of the bridge. btw i can see in the photo the bridge can lift manually but is it automated? like a servo underneath rolling string to lift and lower? that would be some thing amazing.
