bill937ca
A new terminal for the Takaoka Manyosen at JR Takaoka station. The old ekimae tram terminal. Edited June 19, 2014 by bill937ca 2 Link to comment
Densha
Meh the new terminal doesn't really have any atmosphere. It's just a block of boring concrete. I like the old one much better. Link to comment
Davo Dentetsu
I dunno, I prefer a nice bit of fresh concrete now and again. I just like... the tidiness of it all? Link to comment
Densha
That's exactly why I don't like it; train stations shouldn't by tidy. The more chaotic and crammed it is the better! Link to comment
miyakoji
Give it time. A bookstore, ramen shop, kiosk, etc. Build it and they will come. Link to comment
bill937ca
The new terminal provides shelter from elements whereas the old terminal exposed passengers to the elements. There is an extra track at the new terminal whereas the old terminal was just a single track stub. Link to comment
ToniBabelony
The new terminal looks quite spiffy, whereas the old terminal doesn't look very serious. I like both styles, since both have their charm :) Link to comment

Alas, most average passengers won't think along your lines...especially the Japanese, who seem to love commodiousness. The old terminus might have had character for the railfans but the new one will probably more comfortable for passengers making train connections. Considering that most Japanese rural private railways are on their knees chasing after every 160yen fare they can lay their hands on, every passenger which can be tempted into the trams will be welcome. Not only that, if the proposal which is floating about of electrifying the lower end of JR's Johanna branch and tying it in with the Manyosen comes forth, there will be a need for a through route under the station. westfalen
When did the new terminal open? I thought it looked very new when I was there a couple of weeks ago. The buffer stops add a touch of colour to all the bare concrete. Edited June 20, 2014 by westfalen Link to comment
