Researching Kyoto's "Randen" tram (Keifuku Electric Railway)

Recommended Posts

Ken, et al - I've just discovered that one of Jeff's crew built a T-Trak module of Kitano-Hakubaicho.

http://ttrak.wikidot.com/kitano-station

I went through the thread and didn't see any previous reference to it - sorry if there was and I missed it.

The prior discussion was centered on the rolling stock.

I'd like to see a longer module with a more accurate representation of the front of the station.

Those are phillip's excellent modules! He has condensed scenes as he has only done single width modules, but has tried to make adjacent module scenes work together for a larger scene while still being able to stand alone. It's a fine balance. Btw he is moving overseas soon, but sold his wonderful Ttrak alternate spaced loop to one of the other JRM members,

It's nice to see other people that are into modeling the Randen! Sadly, my planning has been at a standstill. The interest is still there, though.

That's an interesting little station - very modellable whether strictly prototypical or as inspiration for freelancing.

Cheers,

Mark.

oops ... looks like I forgot that there was one additional Modemo Randen model release ...

Modemo OE4 (65154) which is from the JAM international model railroad convention event back in 2009 which features an Enoden 1500 Series railcar as well as a 631 series Randen car (T)

This one is not too difficult to find on the second-hand market, Hasegawa's online store even lists it (not sure if they still actually sell it) but it is relatively unknown and often overlooked

Folks,

Many years ago, and I'll have to check the date, I rode on the Randen system, and at that time the cars still had trolley poles, and were the last system in Japan to use these devices.

They also has conductors, and it was interesting to see as the car ran through a curve, the connie at the back would lean out of a rear side window and hang onto the trolley pole rope in case it de-wired on the curve.

Certainly a fascinating system.

On a much later visit, I noticed that on the Arashiyama station platform there was a little area with a small hot-water foot bath for the use of waiting passengers.

A couple of ladies were sitting there happily soaking their feet.

Regards,

Bill,

Melbourne.

Folks,

Further to my previous post on Randen trolley poles, these were taken out of service in December of 1975, so my early visit there was before that date, probably Aug., Sept. of '75.

Bill,

Melbourne.

That is not the same Keifuku division.

Cars in that color scheme were used on the Echizen Railway, which was suspended June 25, 2001 after two serious head-on collisions on single track.
