Guest ___
I know some I the 223s hook up with the 5000 series Marine Liners on JR Shikoku running between Okayama and Takamatu bit the other day while at Tadotsu, I had a JR West115 come from the south along the same route that the JR-S 113-1, 113-2 and 113-3. (I can't think of the service). Did JR-W sell or loan out any 115s from to JR-S. I spent a lot of time at Tadotsu and this was the only one I saw come in. Pix to follow. Link to comment
Guest ___
I was able to clearly read 115 off the side of the train while I was there. It's suffix number fails me at the moment. I can find nothing on the English wiki about these running on the local service it was on. It ran in place of 112-2/113-2 (the pink train) 2 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Good catch. That's likely one of the couple (?) of daily Kotohira-Okayama local services, which use JR West 115 series three-car trainsets based out of Okayama Depot. This is one of those charming cross-country local services that seem to remain, which were more common in JNR days, but can still be seen especially in the area around Okayama. Link to comment
Densha
I was wondering about this for a while back too... so the yellow 115's are actually used on Shikoku! :) Link to comment
E6系
Hello Mr Shashinka, Please allow me to provide what little infos I know about this train. It's a Okayama and Hiroshima area livery (115-3000系). But it seems to be away from home. Unfortunately, I cannot read the running numbers from your photo. Here is a 4-Car set: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:JRW_EC_115_series_shimonoseki_N5.jpg Edit: So sorry. Actually, I think it is R-09 - a 3 car version of 115-2620系 http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/115%E7%B3%BB%E9%9B%BB%E8%BB%8A#mediaviewer/%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%83%AB:Tc115-2620_yellow.JPG Edited June 11, 2014 by E6系 1 Link to comment
Guest ___
Hi E6, I have a better shot that was taken with the X-Pro (the shots before were from the X20 that were teathered to my iphone, posted from work lunch break in the car) Now, the purple units 112-2/113-2 I would see daily, so I was surprised when 115-1070 came in. I thoguht it was form Hiroshima since I had seen a ton of these a week earlier, the LCD destination board was what tipped me off to the fact that this was not a normal JR-S unit. I am fielding quite a few wustions from my Japanese friends out of Shikoku about this train on IG at the moment, and they seem as confused as I am. Edited June 11, 2014 by Shashinka Link to comment

I thought these were the JR-Shikoku 113s that came from JR East Here's the pink 113 guy I would see every day at Tadotsu. He came in from Kotohira. I hear there is a green one and a red one as well, but I never saw them. Edited June 11, 2014 by Shashinka Link to comment

E6系
Hello Mr Shashinka, I'm afraid I am not going to be of much more help with 115-1070. However, you will see on the following link that he was shonan colour in 2011. http://www.kanorail.com/115/115kei.htm Link to comment

Sacto1985
I believe that JR West is painting every one of their in-service 113/115 EMU's into yellow color as each unit's time for a repaint comes up. But that test during the course of 2013 with the two-car 225 EMU may be a preview of the new EMU's that will replace all the 113/115's. It will probably look like a 225, but uses more powerful traction motors so it could handle the "Senohachi" grade. Link to comment
miyakoji
They're painting all of their older trains solid colors, but they're different colors for different regions. Kyoto gets matcha green, Hokuriku's color is a deep blue, Wakayama gets a teal color. Link to comment

Guest ___
That makes sense, I also noticed the old Kiha 40/47 that were red in Hiroshima being repainted as a two-town yellow and white with JR in blue letters. Link to comment
JR 500系
Interesting... But I still like this painted 115 the best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-KBlGUjE-M It's called the JR西日本 ラッピング列車『まんぷく宝しま号』 and it looks absolutely stunning! Still waiting for MircoAce to do this... Link to comment

That's a pleasant surprise, I thought 40s were getting the original orange color. You mean this livery? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/17/West_Japan_Railway_-_Series_Kiha_40-2000_-_Hiroshima_Color_-_01.JPG Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
The full yellow repaint (the color is officially called "deep yellow") program began in 2009 and is a 8 year project. Apparently the color represents the sun reflecting off the waters of the Seto Inland Sea. The color is a bit darker than the old yellow #5 ("marigold" or "canary yellow") used on the original 101 series. Here is an old thread which touches on this color: http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/2499-jr-wests-new-colors/?hl=%2Bjr+%2Bwest+%2Bnew+%2Bliveries Link to comment

Guest ___
Yup, that's her alright, the yellow and white. Personally, the solid yellow 115 don't look right to me. I like the yellow on trains overall if done well, but the look itself appears to me as it was done by a few drunk rednecks with a few cans of Krylon spray paint. Link to comment
kvp
According to a color matching program this is actually Ral 1023 traffic yellow. The common high visibility warning panel yellow found on the front of many UK and european trains. I do like solid color paints, but for the 113/115 series, i would prefer either the yokosuka paint or something similar. The nagano paint was also nice. My third choice would be the orange base with tan windows scheme used for DMU-s in the JNR days, but afaik this was never used on 113/115 series trains. This yellow looks very much like the old JNR Hiroshima local train color without the horizontal thin blue line. Something like these: http://blogs.c.yimg.jp/res/blog-36-0b/yasu120k/folder/1810904/55/60612255/img_0 http://fuchu-kanko.jp/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/kurose.jpg Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Hmm, well, the Japanese label for the color is 濃黄色, which translates into dark or deep yellow or mustard. To me it has a slightly more brown tinge than traffic yellow. Of course, the way it looks on the screen can vary. http://www.color-sample.com/colors/885/ 1 Link to comment
Densha
Hmm... well Dutch trains for example use traffic yellow, but not all stock is painted in exactly the same yellow tinge. It also depends on whether it was painted or stickered and of course on how long the paint has been on the train. Link to comment
Sacto1985
I don't know why the JR West operations in the Hiroshima area are slowly painting all their 113/115 EMU's into this yellow color. For some strange reason, it makes the EMU look a tad "cheap." I still like the white/light brown with blue stripe livery found on 115's in the Hiroshima area. Link to comment

It might have something to do with this yellow being the old JNR standard color for Hiroshima area local trains. The only difference is that this time, the thin blue horizontal line is missing. Painting everything to a single color has the added benefit that it's cheaper to paint, cheaper to repair and nobody sees anything if a set in service is made up of several different original sets assembled just before leaving the yard.
