cteno4
I bought a 100yen tee shirt with Japanese hand painted calligraphy on it in Tokyo on my first trip to Japan. It was like 94F and I was soaked and stinking and had to catch the Shinkansen back to Kyoto that evening.p, is a clean shirt helped. Later that year I was wearing it at my parents and the Japanese neighbor was looking at me strange so I asked and he said he was trying to figure out the shirt said. I walked over and he read it as "love small creatures but kill them". His best guess was one of those translations a few times Japanese<>English that ended up with such a mangled phrase. Socimi
Segakuji is probably the best option due to the nearby Toei & Tokyo Metro subway station, but personally, i'd like to call it "Minami-Mita". Edited December 1, 2017 by Socimi Link to comment
kvp
My suggestion would be 'Shinagawa Yard' as the train yard for Shinagawa station was there. Scotland Yard (the London police HQ) got its name the same way from the yard of the scottish representatives. They even added 'New' to it when it was moved to a new location. Link to comment
Pashina12
Reminds me of how Baltimore's baseball stadium got its name... Camden Yard was the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad's big yard there... Link to comment

The most popular choice was "Takanawa", which was what should have been selected. Reaction so far has been negative- "makes it sound like a subsidiary station", "hard to pronounce", "clunky", "unnecessarily long", "people will shorten it to "Taka-ge" disparagingly", etc... railsquid
It does sound like one of those stations you find on newer lines out in remote suburbs, "Urayama Sparkling Town" and the like. 1 Link to comment

HankyuDentetsu
In case it's of interest, here's a few images of the wider Takanawa Gateway development, first brought to my attention by the venerable Momo1435 at skyscrapercity.com This whole development is going to be seriously impressive, and it's great to see the Gateway (indeed, still a terrible name haha!) Station forming the heart of the development. https://i.imgur.com/jhK7qth.jpg https://www.pickardchilton.com/sites/default/files/1617_N48_webslider.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2Gb46ph.jpg https://i.imgur.com/QpZv5O9.jpg 1 1 Link to comment
