Davo Dentetsu
Was having a read of some Wikipedia pages of some JNR and later JR sector crashes from the past (cheery fellow that I am), but I came across this picture from an image board and can't quite find what happened and where it occurred. miyakoji
This was at Nagoya. Wikipedia says: On March 15, 1982 a Kii sleeper service (discontinued) was stopped for a change of locomotive. The train was a formation of 6 14 series cars. DD51 717 hit it at about 20km/h, the operator had apparently been drinking the night before. Both the loco and the first car (SUHANEFU14 102) were scrapped. 1 Link to comment

kvp
Probably frame damage. There is a different picture of the accident somewhere and you can see that the frame was pretty good, they only lost one of the motors and cooling and one of gearboxes. Essentially it's only one third to one half of the locomotive's internal equipment, so it could have been repaired if they really wanted to. Anyway, it looks like, since then all of its series have been scrapped: http://www.jnr-photo.com/DD51/DD51500-No22.htm Link to comment
JR 500系
Ouch... A drunken man lead to the destruction of 1 good loco and 1 good coach. Will the guy be dismissed, and charged for negligence? Link to comment
Guest ___
I'm amazed a 20kph did that level of damage. Seems pretty excessive. Link to comment
