Guest ___
I don't have a pic to post at the moment, but while sitting in a 0-kei shinkansen at Iyosaijo, I noticed two speedemeters one big one on the left near eye level and then another big one on top of the dash just to the right and near the center of the driver. Both speedometers appear to be clearly visible without having to take ones eyes off the track.Maybe I hadn't noticed this before in the other shinkansens I have sat in before, but why two so close together? Matteo_IT
I don't know, but I can suppose could be for a feedback... In our trains we have some devices double... Of course now they are electronic, then in case of fault of the main speedometer (analogic), automatically appares a digital speed enclosed in the signal detector monitor... may be 40 years ago the sistem was similar but with two analog speedometers wotking in parallel... It's my opinion as train driver... Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Matteo is correct. The speedometer directly in front is the primary device, the one off to the side and raised is the backup. The primary speedometer is called SM-1, and runs off AC 100V, while the backup, called SM-2, is DC powered off the axle generator. Link to comment
