EF65 1100
Any idea what the item number is for the EF65? There has been so many revisions that newer motors may not fit. Link to comment
Davo Dentetsu
I believe I found a very similar Kato USA motor that should shoehorn in very nicely. If not... I'll make it fit forcefully. :P Link to comment
Davo Dentetsu
Famous last words. Why in God's name do the US flywheels need to be bigger... Link to comment
Davo Dentetsu
All rather moot as the armature is stuffed thanks to my useless engineering skills. Link to comment
cteno4
Bummer Dave. Getting press fit parts off like that can be tricky. Usually holding the flywheel in a vise and the gently tapping the shaft out with a punch is the best approach. Don't put any force on the armature as as you found they will break easily. katoftw
is the motor not available seperately from the manufacturer? Link to comment
Davo Dentetsu
Seems to be an older motor from the 90s, so probably not anymore. I have one on the way still, so I'll send that to less meat-headed engineers when it arrives. ;) Link to comment
Davo Dentetsu
I have errantly now got two motors sitting waiting, because of a technical balls up glitch I managed to have the KiHa 201 fall off the layout board today. Since that had a few issues anyway, time for a new one of those I guess. Link to comment
Guest ___
"...the motor is rather decorative. It's pretty much cactus. " Haven't followed the thread, but love the statement. Link to comment
Davo Dentetsu
Number (Sixty) 5 is alive! Only working via a single bogie however (just can't get the driveshaft cup as a part) so hopefully a 7 car 20 Series set won't be too much hassle for it. So there you go, although it was definitely a far sillier plan to fix it rather than just shell out for a new one, this was definitely more satisfying. Link to comment
EF65 1100
Looking good! One can never have too many EF65's :) 1 Link to comment
Davo Dentetsu
Update addendum (for those not of a Latin persuasion, that means extra bit or something) Drive restored to both bogies now, managed to Plastimake a scratch bit with a bit of fiddling. Also managed to make coupler mounts using a part of the Kadee box from HO stuff. So yes... I can say it's definitely back in business properly. Nicely satisfying to make something working from a no hope situation. :) 2 Link to comment
