There's an article in the April 2014 Tetsudou Journal about this line.  A lot of this equipment is being maintained in running condition, they can still do little shuttle runs back and forth at former Kichigahara Station, now called Yanahara Mine Park.

the preservation society's website: http://www.ne.jp/asahi/katatetsu/hozonkai/

and all the operating rolling stock, according to Wikipedia:

- diesel loco DD13-552
- DMUs KIHA303, 312, and 702
- passenger cars OHAFU2003, 2004, 3002
- freight cars TOMU519, TORA814 and 840, WAMU1807, and WAFU102
- other rolling stock: dry battery loco 06-8, acetylene work car, some kind of mine car

Before I moved to Japan and switched my interest to EMU, I was in love with this railway. I think I still have a fleet of 2-axle open hoppers, a small variety of passenger coaches and a few DMU (including the 303 type from this company made by Tomytec) back in the Netherlands to simulate operations like on the Katakami Dōwa Kōgyo Tetsudō.

Also, looking more closely at the society's website and the Tetsudou Journal article, they're extending the line a bit and building a new station.

Good...maybe this will be Japan's first equivalent to an UK-style volunteer-run preserved railway. If only the MLIT would relent a bit more...

Cheers NB
