Ride the Aizu Mount Express from Shimoimaichi to Aizu-Wakamatsu, a joint Tobu - Yagan Railway - Aizu Railway service. Notice the sharp curves on the section between Shimoimaichi and Kinugawa Onsen, a relic of 762mm gauge days.

Cheers NB

Yes! This is maybe one of the rides I really long to do. Take the rapid from Asakusa, all the way to Aizu-Tajima and change to a DMU to Aizu-Wakamatsu. A bag of refreshments will be my partner in crime (next to human travel partners of course).

I've been looking for a zenmen tenbou video of this very route for some time.  :)

For those who want to see it here on JNS Forum, here it is:

The trainset the YouTube poster is riding on is a combined AT-750 and AT-700 unit, both unique to this railway.

A couple of things to note on this ride:

1. The quality of the right of way really changes depending on who built the railroad. Note that from Aizukōgen-Ozeguchi (会津高原尾瀬口) Station north, it is essentially the old JNR Aizu Line; the train at this point starts using JNR-style ATS warning bells.

2. Note the huge crowd of people getting on at Yunokami-Onsen (湯野上温泉) Station and getting off at Ashinomaki-Onsen (芦ノ牧温泉) Station.

Here is an updated zenmen tenbou video of the Aizu Mount Express from Kinugawa Onsen to Aizu-Wakamatsu Stations from an Aizu AT-651 DMU, taken February 2015 in the middle of winter:

Has anyone modelled a station like Ryuokyo?  Half the platform is in a double line tunnel?  The other end of the platform is a bridge over a stream?

If anyone did just that they'd be charged by the Authenticity Police with not conforming to prototype (lol). It does sound like a really intriguing station though, and hence well worth modelling.
