Matteo_IT
Hello guys, I'm detailing the DD51s in HO by Kato, item 1-704 (the blue one for Cassiopeia). As usually, the instruction sheet is written in japanese... The problem is the plates: can somebody translate me what is the meaning of the number plate (the long plate) and the short plate (I suppose is the builder)? In the pic, the blue plates i put in the sheet, is in correct position or I need to rotate upside-down? Many thanks! Edited November 19, 2013 by Matteo_IT Link to comment
miyakoji
Matteo, I don't think the images attached correctly. Link to comment
stevenh
The short plate will say "Hitachi". 日立 or Kawasaki 川崎 I can't read the final kanji on the Kawasaki plate. Edited November 18, 2013 by stevenh Link to comment
miyakoji
It's probably the year of manufacture, often expressed as a year of the Emperor's reign. Showa 45 would be 1970, for example. (image still isn't appearing for me) Edited November 18, 2013 by miyakoji Link to comment
Matteo_IT
Sure it was a problem during the posting of this topic... I try to arrange the pic... If doesn't run try this link please: http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/8121-ho-kato-dd51/ Regards, Matteo. Edited November 19, 2013 by Matteo_IT Link to comment
miyakoji
Matteo, thanks, now I can see the images. You have the plates in the correct position, they are not upside down. On the right side of the instruction sheet, you can see the 3 models of DD51 made by Kato, 1-701, 1-702, and 1-704, which are cold weather, warm weather, and Hokutosei types, respectively. Then, in each of those groups, they give you 4 number options. In the first group, you can see that DD51 745 through DD51 791 were built by Hitachi. I can't see the rest of the list, but you can compare 日立 and 川崎, as stevenh wrote. Let us know if you have any trouble reading the information. Link to comment

Matteo_IT
Hello... I'm having problems again... My items are 1-704, then Hokutosei in blue. I can choose from 4 numbers: DD51 1093, 1100, 1138, 1140. So, as Miyakoji wrote, these 4 engines were built by [ 川崎 ] Kawasaki because only from 745 to 791 were built fom [ 日立 ] Hitachi... Then I have to mount the Kawasaki plate for all the 4 numbers... Is correct? Link to comment
Matteo_IT
So, nobody confirm or not what I have wrote is correct? Link to comment
miyakoji
Matteo, yes, this is correct. Each loco should have two Kawasaki builder plates on it, one on each side, below the DD51 10xx or DD51 11xx. Link to comment
