miyakoji
If any of you are going to be in the Kanto area on Sunday December 1st, Tobu is having their open day at the Minami-Kurahashi Depot, a 20 minute walk from Minami-Kurahashi Station on the Tobu Nikko Line. There's also a free shuttle bus. It's from 10 AM to 3:30 PM with the last entry at 3 PM. Among other points listed on the info page, they'll be selling railway goods and there will be a conversation between a railway writer named Shie and the honorary curator of the Tobu Museum, possibly named Hanagami. http://www.tobu.co.jp/news/2013/1101/fanfesta.html Edited November 6, 2013 by miyakoji 3 Link to comment
nartak
I will be going. I missed the one last year as my son got sick on that day. I hope it doesn't happen again. Apart from this, similar event is scheduled at Shinrin-Koen railyard (on Tobu Tojo Line) on Nov. 17... this is what I found from their post in the train cars. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
I may go to the event at Minami-Kurihashi, as I'll be in the area that weekend (via the Den'en Toshi/Hanzomon Line or Hibiya Line) Someday would like to go to the Shinrin Koen event also. With the start of the Toyoko Line/Fukutoshin Line through running, Saitama mintetsu rail explorations have become much easier for someone based in Yokohama. 1 Link to comment
gmat
Hey Andrew, if you do come, I might see you there. We could catch a meal afterwards. I still owe you one. I went to the Friendship day at Iruma Air Base. Ugh. Wall to wall people and rows of fans standing in front of the aircraft waiting for them to leave at the end of the day. No chance to get a decent shot. Got pictures of the crowds and trains at the nearest station. Best wishes, Grant. Edited November 14, 2013 by gmat Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Grant, If I go, it'll be from 10:30 to 12:30. I gotta be back at the big Y by 3:00 or thereabouts (it's about 2 hrs. to Minami Kurihashi). Lunch will have to be procured from an open day food stall, or an ekimae/ekinai restaurant/bakery/tachigui soba, if there is one. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
I went to the Friendship day at Iruma Air Base. That reminds me, I was in Okinawa a couple of weeks ago. Saw the greatest number of JASDF F15's outside of Chitose AB in my life at Naha AP. Also a lot of KC135's flying out of Kadena- must have seen 4 or 5 of them in the two hours I was whiling the time on the beach in the middle section of the island. The last day saw a V-22 Osprey flying over Naha noontime, unfortunately couldn't get a pic of it from the monorail station I was at, though I did catch a Marine Corps Herk presumably on final approach to Futenma. It is an admission free event, so no need to pay or any ticket. They will park trains for photo shooting, showing inside the depot, selling train goods, etc... quite many kind of things. The event will be held from 10:00 to 15:00. I will be there maybe first half round. I will going there with my kids but can help you escorting if you are okay... just drop me a message. bikkuri bahn
There was the Tobu open day this past Sunday on the Tojo Line (Shinrin Koen), as mentioned by nartak. Couldn't find any quality video for this year's event. But the revival color 8000 series was running. Here it is running a special on the single track section of the Tojo Line between Obusama and Tobu- takezawa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9msGlprzIY This trainset will be at the Minami Kurihashi event also. 1 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
There will be booths set up by 17 different railway companies, much like the Seibu event this spring. There was some good stuff being sold at reasonable prices at that one- I picked up a Tokyu Lines System map pre-Toyoko Line/Fukutoshin Line linkup. http://sankei.jp.msn.com/life/news/131119/trd13111909180000-n1.htm Official Tobu public notice: http://www.tobu.co.jp/news/2013/1101/fanfesta.html Being on the NIkko Line, there will be limited express types also on display.
