JR 500系
Wow! Came across this video and discovered: So it seems Himeji Station on the Sanyo Line is the best station to view the shinkansens going at top speed! It's the 'mid-point' of the shinkansens going from Tokyo to Hakata, about 270km from Tokyo and 300km from Hakata ~ Good to catch the flying N700A Nozomi at 300km/h here! Look at the foreigners in the video getting so excited about the flying trains ~~ Link to comment
Densha
Lol. Was the foreigner really talking in Osaka-ben? Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Himeji Station's status as the most famous "fast trains" station prolly owes alot to its status as a drop off point for tourists wanting to see the castle in town. Actually, it's doubtful that trains actually pass through at 300km/h, as just east of the station (Shin-Osaka direction), the speed limit is 270km/h. Up trains, especially, are already slowing down when passing though the station limits (regulator on neutral). Down trains are a better bet to be closer to 300km/h, as they are speeding up from 270km/h to the designated 300km/h limit west of the station. An even better place to see near 300km/h running is at Aioi Station. Link to comment
westfalen
Shin-Iwakuni (first station west of Hiroshima) is the place to go to see trains passing at 300 km/h and as there is only an hourly service of Kodama trains that stop there you see more expresses. I spent an hour there in 2011 and will back there this year all going well. Link to comment
