ToniBabelony
So it looks like the old Odakyu RSE 20000 is being transferred to Fujikyū next month, probably replacing (or assisting) the aging ex-JNR 165 Series with panorama cabs. The train will be shortened from seven to three cars, which makes me wonder if the centre car will be a normal car or double decker car. Both options are possible, since the front cars are both motorised and have pantographs... Hmm... We'll probably see soon what's up... http://www.odakyu.jp/program/info/data.info/8027_3257345_.pdf http://www.47news.jp/CN/201201/CN2012012101001689.html http://news.mynavi.jp/news/2013/10/11/248/index.html Edited October 11, 2013 by Toni Babelony 1 Link to comment
Densha
Good to see these are being reused. I still wonder what will happen with the JRE series that was used in the same pool as these (can't remember which series it was though). Which Fujikyu series is the ex-165's? Link to comment

The 371 Series from JR Central is being used as a charter train (there is only one set), mainly on the Gotemba line. This is the ex-165: http://www.uraken.net/rail/chiho/fujikyu/2000.html DUHURRHURR Link to comment
Densha
Ohhh THAT one... it's not recognizable as a 165 and I hadn't seen the other front yet. Considering this creature I wonder what the RSE will look like when Fujikyu got their hands on it. Link to comment
miyakoji
The 371 Series from JR Central is being used as a charter train (there is only one set), mainly on the Gotemba line. There had a few news items on Tetsudou Fan about the 371 testing in the Nagoya area. That was a little while after the Asagiri service ended, which Wikipedia says was March 16th of last year! I can't believe it's been that long already. Ohhh THAT one... it's not recognizable as a 165 and I hadn't seen the other front yet. Considering this creature I wonder what the RSE will look like when Fujikyu got their hands on it. Yeah, it's not easy to see that it's a 165 series. But I think JR East had converted it to a joyful train before selling it on to Fujikyu, so I hope this RSE set will retain its physical form. A blue/yellow/white scheme like on the 205 series set they got from JRE might be alright, depending on how it's carried out. I wonder if it will get the Mitooka treatment. Link to comment

ToniBabelony
There were two RSE 20000 sets. Was the other set cut up? Not entirely sure, but IIRC there is one set in the Ono-depot next to the station where I live (Sagamiono). It's possible this set is now reserved for Fujikyū or is only a few cars, since the hall it is parked in only allows for 4 or 5 cars in length: http://goo.gl/maps/KGSHi Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Some hardcore fans went out in the deepest of the night to film the transfer from Shin-Matsuda on the Odakyū Odawara line to Matsuda on the JR Central Gotenba line. The RSE is headed for Nippon Sharyō for a rebuilt to a 3 car formation. Dodeskaden dodeskaden: http://railf.jp/news/2013/11/13/090000.html Edited November 13, 2013 by Toni Babelony 1 Link to comment
JR 500系
Thanks Toni for sharing this! The Japanese LOVE their trains, and we love their trains AND their passion! So did Odakyu sell the train to JR? NOOB question: Just curious, i have been wondering for sometime now, why can't the 'Non-service' trains, like these, be ran on their own? Why would they require a locomotive to bring them around, like in the delivery of the new trains too? Link to comment
ToniBabelony
One of the RSE 20000s has been sold to Fujikyū and goes to Nippon Sharyō in Nagoya for a rebuild. The train will be rebuilt to a 3-car unit instead of the current 7-car unit. The train has to be hauled 'dead' by JR Freight, as the RSE is not entitled to run on the entirety of the JR Central network (only to from Matsuda to Gotenba IIRC). Also, the RSE 20000s haven't been ran for more than a year and have been put on non-active mode, probably without any maintenance for self-propelled operations. Hence the hauling by an Odakyū 1000 type and the JR Freight EF65. By the way, it's pretty damn rare you see a 11-car set (7-car RSE + 4-car 1000 type) on the Odakyū line other than the Romance cars (11-cars with the length of a 10-car train)! :D Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Modemo! Get ready to dust off your old ass Odakyu RSE injection moulds and wait for the design of Fujikyū's paint scheme! Or maybe start negotiations with Fujikyū about the publishing rights if you didn't already do that... MicroAce might jump in on this if you're not careful! ;) 1 Link to comment

Actually I kinda wished MicroAce WOULD jump on this one over Modemo... Don't know why but basically I prefer MicroAce over Modemo... Unfortunately the centre car isn't the double decker one.... Any idea what the new colour would be like? Fujikyu had a couple of very nice colouring schemes, like the Evangelion scheme and the Fuji Tozandensha... If it turns out to be a beautiful painted train I might jump on this one! Link to comment
Guest keio6000
MicroAce over modemo? Ehh.. MicroAce produces decent enough trains of a wide variety of subjects, but compared to tomix and kato they are generally at least 50% more expensive and that's before you add on the necessary couplers. Modemo has done nothing but provide high quality stuff at reasonable prices (plus or minus the eternally slipping flexible transmission piece) and i wish they'd do more EMUS. They got a little stung with the RSE (it was a poor subject choice) but it's a fine model. I wish modemo would put out more train sets! also, if they'd learn to market their trams properly they'd do so much better. The trams themselves have so much personality and nostalgia associated with them and yet all modemo can think of is to put them in generic cases and as far as I know no 'limited editions' or some such. modemo is a branch of.. hasegawa or something, right? always seems to workmanlike for me. Densha
I can't help but think that Fujisan eats people when there is an accident with a person in front of the train... my hidden dark sense of humour comes out.http://rail.hobidas.com/blog/natori/archives/2014/07/post_468.html 1 Link to comment

bill937ca
That was a good looking train, a little plain perhaps, but now?? Somewhere between a painted train and a cartoon. 2 Link to comment
JR 500系
Oh wow! Now I would WANT this train in N scale! The former coloured one, the series 2000 made by Kato: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10042185 , is this the same livery/ colouring? I notice some differences from the pictures in the link and the video. And definitely the RSE looks way better than the series 2000. Kinda makes me want to concentrate on Fujikyu alone just for their beautifully painted trains! :) Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Oh Fujikyū... At least you stay loyal to your insane Ltd. Express livery... I don't know what to say really. Link to comment
cteno4
The 2000 is very fun, its been a playful train to run on the layout. Always makes me smile. Also a great deal for a 2 motor car set. Helped that kato brought it over to the states and for a while they could be had on ebay for less than $100 easily. The new livery is a bit more colorful and playful! Jeff Link to comment
