marknewton
This is a great little movie, showing all sorts of interesting aspects of JNR freight operations in 1950. There's timber, livestock, pottery, and live fish being carted around, plus a hump yard and a sawmill. Well worth watching. Cheers, Mark. 6 Link to comment

bikkuri bahn
Great little film. I like, in old skool fashion, how they follow the journey of one freight car from start point (Kobayashimachi Sta. on the Kitto Line in Kyushu) to destination (Minatomachi Freight Station in Osaka, now known as JR Namba). Being 1950, you can see how places like Kobe were still recovering from the war. The stretch of the Sanyo Main Line at Suma was right up against the highway, with no fencing, unimaginable today. The explanation of weight codes was also informative- using the "mu-ra-sa-ki" mnemonic. Link to comment
Sacto1985
A pleasant surprise with this short film is scene of the train going through the Kanmon Tunnel. I've seen modern zenmen tenbou videos of the trip between Moji and Shimonoseki Stations and wow, the scene of the northern tunnel portal in this old film looks really different than what is it now! westfalen
Ah, the days when railways carried everything. Railways all over the world must have made films like this around that time but now it's all gone. Link to comment
