ToniBabelony
Some of you may know that I'm working as a freelance illustrator/designer. Nowadays, I work mostly for people who are into the fringy part of life, but that's because I want to and I like it. It's enjoyable work and the community is very friendly. But that aside, let's get to the train business! I've recently decided to personally concentrate on working on quick and interesting stuff to improve my anatomy and lighting skills, instead of my usual muses. This means, jotting my ideas and passions on paper as they come and go. As Keisei is always in the back of my head (it's like an obsession), I've done a few Keisei sketches I want to share, because I think you guys can appreciate them as well. In these illustrations, from time to time, there might be some 'weird' stuff going on, but that's all in the eye of the beholder IMHO. I'm not sure if the images work for everyone, so here are the direct links to the illustrations/sketches: 1) http://fav.me/d6nmsno 2) http://fav.me/d6no2hy 3) http://fav.me/d6nto1u 4) http://fav.me/d6nxpho 5) http://fav.me/d6oan7q 6) http://fav.me/d6olnha 7) http://fav.me/d6owgvp 8) http://fav.me/d6po3vg 9) http://fav.me/d6q0u8b • • o • • I'll keep this post updated whenever I draw something that JNS might interest, so keep checking regularly! Ochanomizu
Perhaps you should consider drawing trains. There could be a market for commemorative artwork, matching the opening of a new service, or the end of a service, or even matching the release of a model. For example, I think people would purchase items with your artwork on them, such as mugs placemats, canvas for wall hanging, etc. PS: I like the railway employee ... I would even like to meet her ... :love10: Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Hmm, that's a good thought, but I think that requires also getting copyrights of the respective involved companies. I mean, you can't just go out and make a profit over their backs... :( Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
Just make up fake companies like HANTETSU or TOSEI or JR SOUTH Link to comment
JR 500系
Nice Toni! Thanks for sharing! I kinda like the trains more than the girls... I think you captured the trains well, and like Ochanomizu san said, you could perhaps look into drawing trains ~ The train in the first picture looks great, but probably missing the wheels and tracks? The 2nd picture is more refined, but i'm having doubts with the girl-in-a-gas-mask thingy, but that's just me ~ Both look great by the way! Link to comment
ToniBabelony
No problemo, just sharing the love here. ;) I can understand why some things appeal more to others than other of my shenenigans, but hey, I like both :p It's doodles for the sake of improvement and the 1st one was just a start and the focus was more on the girl, rather then the surroundings. For the following ones, I'll probably get more into detail with underbody equipment (the trains that is), sine Keisei had/has a lot of interesting bogies and modular electronics. As I continue, things will get better ;) Link to comment
cteno4
nice work toni. nice to see free hand drawing being done like that! computer has ruined so many artists these days! such a different interaction in the brain and feedback loops with pencil and marker in hand! keep on doodling like this the more the better! my design partner still amazes me when he doodles with sketches of ideas. 50 years of it now and its just an auto thing with him to do something amazing in 30 seconds with a sharpie on tissue, but that ability was refined from probably hundreds of thousands of doodles over the years. his quick sketches grab EVERYONE's attention over the most refined CAD rendering sitting next to it. cheers jeff Link to comment

I mean, you can't just go out and make a profit over their backs... :( Dead railway managements can't sue...so what about starting drawing scenes from extinct lines/companies first? There is also a huge market for "retro" stuff...pictures of D51s and EF58s and long-closed private lines and so forth. You can start here, then when (all going well) you've made a name for yourself you can approach the present-day operators and offer them your services. Cheers NB Link to comment
Densha
But that won't do Nick, he's already admitted to be Keisei-addicted. Link to comment
Mr Frosty
Excellent pictures. Always been a fan of the more "avant garde" images. :) Link to comment

ToniBabelony
Of course. That is how business works. So you start with a range of TOEI Asakusa Line drawings and go to their marketing department. If I would start selling prints without their consent for my own gain, it would be plagiarism. Selling the pictures with a partial intellectual copyright to the designated firm is business. I know, I know... ;) Different approaches, different consequences. Also, glad they are according to taste of most. :D Anyway, 'dead' companies still have copyright holders over them, even if they are long dissolved and/or taken over. The trick is either not to be prosecuted or approach the people holding the legal rights over that deceased company and ask for permission. Not sure exactly how it is all done, but I'm sure it's different with each company. Yeah, copyrights are complicated, but necessary, like it or not... ToniBabelony
Bump from the grave, as I've done another train related illustration. Granted, it's in the development phase, as it's not fully finished yet (needs more text). This is done for a convention in the Netherlands to promote a Super Eurobeat and J-Techno party by a few friends: I've added a contribution to the now abolished Cassiopeia, hauled by an EF510. I wonder how many people will get the reference at the convention... :P 8 Link to comment

ToniBabelony
very glad to see the illustration is still going strong toni! This is still my mainstay of doing what I do, but most of it isn't really intended for this forum. And by most I mean 99.8% of it xD Link to comment
