Keisei 3050 - do they run on square wheels?!

I watched a few youtube videos of Keisei 3050's and the things sound like they have massive flat spots on the wheels.  Is there an explanation for this, i.e is it something other than the wheels?

Cheers,

Keisei isn't a rich company and the trains are ran by many a driver from Keikyū. Keikyū drivers aren't well known to be nice to rolling stock. Full acceleration, hard braking, and overruns -combine that with very high speeds (120kph) on short distances- are daily practice. Just imagine the situation in the rain! Same goes for Keisei drivers, but as the schedule is planned less tight there, they're usually more friendly to their machines.

They run square wheels with style. :D

Here is the video I was referring to.

The thing that surprised me is that the video I watched seemed to be of the units being introduced to service, so I was surprised that the units would sound so bad so soon in their lives.  Listen to the runby at 1:55!!

Ah, that train is on a test run (filmed in 2010, before introduction in service), so they must have been doing high-speed emergency brake tests as well with it. The front wheels (if you listen carefully, it's only the front bogies that have flat spots) probably didn't like it, having all that weight on them at 130kph.

JR Yokohama Line 205's always seem to have wheel flats (I notice them when they pull into Yokohama Sta., opposite the Keikyu platform where I usually am standing).  I remember the 103's were the same.

Let me check that, maybe tomorrow. :D The 205s are still fully running this year, so I need to check out the 205s while it's still sunny.

I wish it was sunny over here...

On another note, where I live(d) you could clearly hear the trains with square wheels passing by a few hundred meters away. Even during the day, but mainly at night you can hear it from far away. Square wheels doesn't seem to be that much common in the Netherlands though, it was much worse in the past. It looks like they finally reinvented the wheel with spraying stuff on the tracks against autumn leaves. even though they did that in the past too.
