JR 500系
Interesting video Toni! I like how the station man goes 'yoshi, yoshi, yoshi' Very nice! Any idea what these adjustable doors are for? Are they to facilitate various trains configration, or to make things easier for the train operator to stop right on the spot? Link to comment

Seibu runs 3 and 4 door trains, so these doors are there to be adjust the location according to the door formations. I presume their 1 and 2 door trains don't stop on platforms with these doors. Sacto1985
I wouldn't be surprised you'll eventually see this at JR East's major stations in the Tokyo area--especially Shinjuku, where you have a mix of commuter and long distance trains going through the station. Link to comment

Shinjuku station has dedicated platforms for commuter and express trains, so this would not be necessary for Shinjuku station. The only platforms where it might be an issue are the ones that have the Chūō line (Rapid) commuter trains mixed with expresses (track 7/8), but if platform doors were to be installed, the express services would be diverted to a platform without doors (e.g. track 9/10). A bigger issue would be track 4 where the Saikyō and Shonan-Shinjuku Liners are sharing the platform. The Shonan-Shinjuku Liners have two green-cars with only two doors, so there this technology might be useful. Link to comment
