Severe storms damaging JR West Sankō Line

YouTube poster nimo5 just posted an excellent--but quite sobering--video of the damage to the JR West Sankō Line when recent severe rainstorms on August 23-24, 2013 caused a number of landslides and even damaged a railroad bridge:

 

 

In my opinion, they'll be lucky if the line is reopened by October 15, 2013.

Are those Kiha 120's trapped? Also, I've never seen a crab walking on railway track.... wait, are those monkeys? I thought in Japan monkeys only lived far away from people.

To answer your questions:

 

1. Yes, I believe those KiHa 120's are trapped.

2. And yes, that is a crab on the rail tracks.

3. What you saw are Japanese macaques. They're native to Japan and can be quite aggressive, as a recent news story of a group of macaques becoming dangerous pests near the city of Miyazaki on Kyushu noted.
