bikkuri bahn
An interesting video, full of nostalgia (I was a senior in high school at the time this video was made). Den'en Toshi Line neighborhoods were less built up then, and the station roofing less extensive. In Eidan territory, old Ginza Line trains at Omotesando, and at Ginza, a transfer to the Hibiya Line and a Tobu 2000 series (long gone too). Finally at the exit at Ueno- manned ticket gates! Listen for the clicking of the ticket punchers- a sound now long gone from the railway scene, but one I remember so vividly and fondly, a signal of the beginning (or end) of a journey... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9hweL3-Sng Edited August 23, 2013 by bikkuri bahn 4 Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Sweet! Nice old images of my 'hood'. It's still largely the same here, though maybe one or two building filling the large empty spots between the concrete mansions (now slowly being torn down). Link to comment
Densha
This looks so very modern while it's actually 1988! Somewhat related to the ticket punchers you mention; I don't really get why everything has to be digitized nowadays. Ticket gates may be more efficient so I can understand that but the analog destination signs both on trains and platforms were perfectly fine and did use no power and have a much better visibility than those digital display now used.
