Jcarlton
The ERA is planning a three week tour of Japan visiting as many trams as possible in May of next year. Link attached. Pricy, but they are doing things such as chartering a tram for the Toden Arakawa: http://erausa.org/international-tours/2014/ 1 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Good they have a charter on the Hankai. Most interesting system from Kansai east. Link to comment
westfalen
For 21 days with a green car rail pass that's not a bad price. Link to comment
lurkingknight
add airfare you're looking at closer to 7.5-8k before spending money... that's not a cheap trip even so. Link to comment
westfalen
I didn't notice there was no air fare, you're right, not so cheap. My eight day trip in Nov/Dec is going to cost about $1880 for air fare from Australia, seven day railpass, hotels for six nights and a deluxe room on the Sunrise Izumo. 1 Link to comment

westfalen
How will you get to Izumo? From Hiroshima via the Geibi and Kisuki lines. I'm working out details of the itinery as we speak, I'll start a thread on the subject shortly. Since this thread started I have heard the Queensland division of the Australian Railway Historical Society may be running a three week tram tour of Japan in May/June next year covering all tram lines except Hakodate and Sapporo. I'll post details when they come out. Link to comment
gmat
I rode it last year when I went to meet my Mom and Aunt when they visited Kyoto and other cities in that area. It's like sleeping on a tatami mat. Best wishes,. Grant Link to comment

gmat
I didn't mean to say that it was bad. I didn't get much sleep beforehand so I fell asleep quite easily. I think that if I could do it again, I'd try to stay awake and watch more of the nighttime scenery. I usually doze off on part of the ride whenever I do my one day Seishun 18 trips. I made it to Bessho Onsen again and rode the Koumi Line both ways yesterday. Caught the Hybrid to Koumi Station on the way back. Will ride to Shizuoka City for the third time tomorrow. I may stay at a few stations along the way and shoot trains as they pass by, rather than see how far I can go. Grant 1 Link to comment
