D51 498 Trots Her Stuff

Magic happens:

I don't what it is. By all rights steam locomotives should something everyone wants to forget. Their big, dirty and smoky and you would think, pretty ugly, being all black with all those pipes and what not. But put one in front of a train and run it down the road and the world just becomes a better place. If you can't see that you have no soul or have never been covered in coal smoke as the engine charges by.

I rode behind D51 498 on one of her regular runs from Takasaki to Minakami in 1997 and she was just loafing along without any effort, its good to see her given an outing on a line where she can flex her muscles.

I see on a couple of his videos he has posted that some of the line used by preserved steam locos has been damaged by storms.A big cleanup ahead. hope this link works.

The sad part is that once a line like this goes down with severe damage, that's it unless the local government can foot the bill.
