upwpfan
keitaro; Wow!! Thanks for the heads up on this. Does the ad say when they are going to deliver? Any suggestions on where I should place a pre order? Has Rakuten Mokeiyabigman or Hobby Search listed this item yet? I am really looking forward to this....I am huge fan of Shinkansen Trains. (I presume that this is a still considered a "Shinkansen" Train...please correct me if I am wrong) Regards Jere Ingram Link to comment
upwpfan
Folks; Looks like Hobby Search has posted the Kato e5 as a pre order. Cost looks like about $500 USD and change + Shipping. Looks like a November delivery. I placed an order with these folks. Is my general opinion that these folks are a reliable dealer correct? Please advise. Regards Jere Ingram Edited July 31, 2013 by upwpfan Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
Hobby Search is very reliable, but they tend to be a bit more expensive than most other Japanese stores. There are various other stores, including the one that Keitaro himself runs, so you could just ask him ;) I'm somewhat tempted myself, but it'd only be a display model in my case. I have too much N-scale to switch to full blown H0, and so my main H0 interest is H0e and H0j. Link to comment
Densha
Does the ad say when they are going to deliver? Yes it does, 2013年11月 means November 2013. Link to comment
bnicolas1987
Hi, Kato has posted the first picture of the new E5 Shinkansen. http://www.katomodels.com/product/nmi/ho_e5kei.shtml It seems very beautiful, I preordered a full 10 car set today at Keitaro's webshop. bnicolas1987
Hi, It seems that the Shinkansen E5 will be soon delivered at home... (ordered by Loco1hobby) http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10236910 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10236911 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10236912 By Kato website, it shows that it is motorised with the new motor carriage, it seems that it will be hard to fit it in DCC. upwpfan
Folks; Got my E5 from Hobby search last week. I have not had a chance to run it yet. However, to do photos and stage it correctly I need the catenary that is used for high speed trains in Japan. Any suggestions? I think that KATO makes these but I am at a loss on what I should be ordering or trying to buy. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks. Regards Jere Ingram Link to comment
bnicolas1987
Hi, I wasn't the first for the pictures, but I think I'm the only one to have run it yet. Only one thing to say: Beautiful and amazing!!! Here are two short videos, sorry for poor quality, it was made with my phone yesterday night... They have also done the tilting system, ingeneers at kato are absolutely mad ^^ See you. Nicolas (I have some pictures, but I haven't enough time to post them yet) Link to comment
keitaro
WOW it looks more Amazing then i remember when i checked it for you. I couldn`t run that in my current place too small. Link to comment
upwpfan
Folks; Great to see the train in action. I have had mine out of the box and looked at it. I have had a chance to get down to my club's layout and run it. Question for the assembled multitude. How do you install a DCC decoder in the powered portion of this train? Any photos or ideas would be most appreciated. Regards Jere Ingram Link to comment
bnicolas1987
For the DCC; it will be hard as the motor carriage take his own current. I'll fit it in DCC but next year... See you. Nicolas Link to comment
DBSchenker60008
Sorry if I am bumping this tipoc but I don't want to run the riskk of being repremanded on my first day here by opening another topic on the same thing. I have just bought the basic 4 car set brand new from Japan via eBay as I have always wanted an HO scale Shinkansen since I packed in N gauge back in 2012. Could anyone advise if this model would run okay on the Hornby R8262 fourth radius curves? Or should I play it safe and invest in a HO scale Kato Unitrack set instead? I thought I would ask because I wouldn't want to risk ruining my brand new HO scale Shinkansen if my 4th radius tracks are too tight :). Link to comment
bnicolas1987
I think it is OK, I checked mine on about 450mm radius cruve, so if this one is bigger it will be OK. Just try and if the train goes ou of the track, it wasn't the goo curves... See you. Nicolas 1 Link to comment
DBSchenker60008
I will give this a try when it arrives to me. I hope they will consider making the Hikari Railstar in HO as an additional set or the E7 :). Link to comment
domino
Hello all Got mine today, and it looks fanatstic, i was a bit surprised over the size of it , so i assume it is 1/80 scale and not "normal" 1/87 scale ?? Some trouble at first run, used my kato controller , motor car alone run ok, but when run complete set of 4 cars it stops in the curves (Trix R2 tracks) , so i tried with another power supply , still kato controller but with 1 amp out put instead of 0.5 amp , now set run fine , have any of you have same problem ?? Does this make sence , is 0.5 amp out put to Little for 4 cars H0 set ?? Brian Link to comment
DBSchenker60008
Hello Brian. I have the same set myself and my example works fine with my Gaugemaster Model D as that has more oomph (1.5amp) than the very basic Hornby controller which to put it like this. The Hornby controller I use keeps tripping out if I use anything more than a 0-4-0 locomotive with it. I would recommend using a controller with a minimum of 1 amp for any HO/OO scale model trains :). Trust me, it saves a few headaches in the long run as well :). Link to comment
domino
Hey DB Schenker Many thanks for your reply. It is then somewhat misleading of Kato to write N/H0 scale for the controller ?? Have a nice weekend Brian Link to comment
DBSchenker60008
Hello Brian. I think the Kato 500mA controller is more orientated for N scale as where the 1 Amp controller is more suitable for HO scale models which have the larger more power-hungry motors :). Have a great weekend as well buddy :). Best Regards Ash. Link to comment
bnicolas1987
Hi, Yesterday I fitted the E5 in DCC, it needs four decoders, two for the motors and two for head and tail light. The job was a little hard, but it is done. First, I checked how work the light PCB: Then, Here is the head unit. Next post for the motor drive unit. See you. Nicolas Link to comment
bnicolas1987
Hi, Here are the pictures of the motor car, the hardes job is to connect the wire of the motors. See you. Nicolas 2 Link to comment
keitaro
good job. Nicolas the motors are on the trucks right but same car? can you not wire both motors to the same decoder or is there an AMP issue doing so. I always thought a decoder for each motor would cause the push pull effect where they fight each other. though i don`t do dcc myself yet but that's what i read. Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
You can hook up both motors to the decoder, but full set has 2 motor cars, so you need 1 decoder per motor car :) I'm actually working on a sound decoder install in 1 motor car. Just finished building a custom sound box because quite frankly, the ones ESU supplies with their Loksound decoders are terrible. Link to comment
keitaro
fair enough forgot it was 2 motor cars... it all makes sense to me now :) Link to comment
