miyakoji
good find, I wonder how things will progress in the area that's closed. If any country has both the technical ability and the will to rehabilitate the area (to the degree that it can be rehabilitated, anyway), it's Japan. Link to comment

cteno4
unfortunately japan is really blundering on these recovery efforts. Seems to be mired in the big corp and japanese only cronyism as well as the traditional "cover things up" of the nuclear community. it will be interesting to see how the new government moves on these issues, so far that position has not got a lot of press over here compared to economy and military stuff so far. jeff Link to comment
TestudoToTetsudo
So sad to see this damage even two years later. Also really worrisome to read in the news the Fukushima Power Plant containment is still running into issues (at least as of a couple months ago). You'd think the Japanese would have engineered and implemented a solution by now. I rode the Super Hitachi from Ueno to Sendai the last time I was in Japan, in 2009, and went through this whole section of the Joban Line blissfully unaware of what world events would unfold there two years later. After the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear disaster, I thought of everyone I saw on that train, the crewmembers (the woman selling food and beverages from the cart told me she was from Sendai), and the passengers I saw on the platforms, getting on and off at the smaller stations along the way. Bless them, their families, and their communities. Some photos from the trip, remembering better days on the Joban Line: Edited August 4, 2013 by TestudoToTetsudo 2 Link to comment
