New rolling stock for Toei Shinjuku Line that looks like E233-2000

Subways are not my area of interest, but I saw this and thought it was simply a re-styled JR East E233-2000, which were built for through-service on the Metro Chiyoda Line from the Joban Line.  Both of these are products of Tokyu/J-Trec, but I haven't read anything that confirms that the designs are related.  The article says says it's a 10-300 type with minor changes.  Really?

Yes, it's (10-300) based on the JR-E E231 series.  The design was selected to keep development and construction costs low.  The primary builder at the time was Tokyu Railcar, but some intermediate cars were actually built at JR-E's Niitsu Plant, which as you know churned out the E231's and now the E233 types.

 

At this rate, in ten years half the trains in Tokyo will all look (and sound) alike

The Japanese Wikipedia 10-300 page has a note that says (Google Translate):

I'd say that confirms your hypothesis that this new train (described as 10-490/10-491 in the post) is based on the  E233-2000 design.

The E233-2000 is a narrow body design intended for through operations on subway routes.  It has a car width of 2770mm, compared with 2800mm for the related Tokyu 5000 series or the standard E233 width of 2950mm.

the construction costs may be low, but the MicroAce model is too expensive :).  I've been trolling yahoo japan for a cheaper 10-300 but doubt i'll find one soon...  just dont feel that attracted to pay that much for such a plain train, even if it fits thematically in my collection.

 

and of course, there's that insane "japan-world-store" on ebay whose business plan seems to be to double the price of everything in the hope that some sucker buys it..
