Guest ___
http://www2.jrhokkaido.co.jp/global/pdf/e/global20130711.pdf The incident appears to have occurred on the 6th, but the english PDF did not go up until the 11th.Five days before posting a notice, sweet. http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?act=url&depth=1&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://www.jrhokkaido.co.jp/press/2013/130711-1-3.pdf&usg=ALkJrhhLEdyOz8RUg9fc34_7DpFxyFOOeA http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?act=url&depth=1&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://www.jrhokkaido.co.jp/press/2013/130708-1.pdf&usg=ALkJrhgrJTPw8V8mMt_XycWasw7ZBqhZgg UPDATE: It is only some trains due to a fire at an engine house. However several train sets have been reported damaged so it is not a total suspension, but it is quite a few trains. Edited July 11, 2013 by Shashinka Link to comment
Densha
I googled for the title of the pdf file and found this very clear news article: http://news.tv-asahi.co.jp/news_society/articles/000008357.html The train caught fire on the Hokuto 14 service on the Hakodate line. All trains of the same type are not allowed to run until the cause of the 5cm hole of leaking oil which caused the fire is found. Please correct me if I translated the video commentary wrong or if google translate messed up the article text which I also used. Yet another JR Hokkaido train on fire though... bikkuri bahn
The problem, which occured twice before, was a broken part in the fuel regulation mechanism (connected with the throttle line?)- it caused the engine to over-rev, and resulted in the cranks on two pistons to break from their connection to the crankshaft (it's a boxer-type configuration), the flying parts punched a 10cm-wide hole in the engine block and a fire ensued. I'll try to make a more detailed post w/pictures later. The Hokkaido Shimbun ( the local fishwrap) is doing excellent coverage of this incident. Edited July 12, 2013 by bikkuri bahn Link to comment
JR 500系
Oh the Super Hokuto! I was on board the Kiha-283 last year... Glad no one was injuried in the event... Link to comment
Densha
I think it's the normal Hokuto service judging from the 183 series shown on the video from Asahi TV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokuto_%28train%29 Link to comment
Sacto1985
Aren't those KiHa 183's old models that date from JNR days? I'm surprised that JR Hokkaido haven't phased them out by now in favor of more KiHa 281 or 283 trainsets. Link to comment
Guest ___
Anyone hear anything about a fire today on a JR-H train around Chitose? The gf says it is in the news right now? Link to comment
Guest ___
Link to comment
miyakoji
Looks like it might be true, first line in the green section marked 2013.07.15 on their Japanese homepage: http://www.jrhokkaido.co.jp/index.html . It's linked to a pdf http://www.jrhokkaido.co.jp/press/2013/130715-1.pdf . It says that there was a fire around 9:13 AM in an electrical panel on the Super Ozora bound for Kushiro. The service started at Sapporo at 9:04 AM. The car was KIRO282-2, which is part of the KIHA281 series. Wikipedia says these have been in service since 1994, with the earliest ones built in 1992. bikkuri bahn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO6_-6SIi34 83 train services were cancelled, and around 20,000 passengers affected. I would have hated being one of the many who were trying to get to the airport on the last day of a three-day weekend. Link to comment
Densha
This is not good for JR Hokkaido's reputation, just look at that list in the video! Link to comment
JR 500系
Now that has got to be the Kiha-283 Super-Oozora now right? Confused as the original was stated Hokuto and now it's limited express Super-Oozora... I have seen the Kiha-283 being used on Super-Hokuto service though... Did the news-man just said: JR Hokkaido 'mata' Sharyo Trouble desu' ... MATA? Again? Amazed there was so many cases before this: March - Limited Express Hokuto - smoke April - Limited Express Hokuto - Fire May - Limited Express Super Gamou - Fire 6th July - Limited Express Hokuto - Fire Yesterday - Ishikari Rai ?? (forgot that Katagana) - Smoke Yesterday - Limited Express Super-Oozora - Fire Luckily there were no injuries... Don't get the last part of the news... Did JR Hokkaido provided the air route service reimbursement for affected commuters from Sapporo to Shin-Chitose Airport and Tomakome ?? Or are they just saying please use the air route for this period of time? *Darn i need to work harder on my Japanese.....* Link to comment
westfalen
This is not good for JR Hokkaido's reputation, just look at that list in the video! The other JRs must be starting to wish they'd get their act together too before the image rubs off on them. Link to comment
