CaptOblivious
I'm looking for surface-mount LEDs in a 1206 (aka 3216) package (about 3mm x 1.5mm) that are warm or sunny white. I've had a hard time finding part numbers, but a Taiwanese comapny, Yoldal, makes them. Part no. UBSM1206WW. Seems only stores in Germany carry this part. 0605 sunny white LEDs are easy to get in the US. TCS has them, for example. But these are too small for my needs (about 1.5mm x .8mm), and far too expensive ($2/light? no way). So, I'm looking for an inexpensive source for these. I'd like at most 50. Any ideas or suggestions? Link to comment

CaptOblivious
Alpine, very nice! ledbaron has them in a 1206, yay! I should mention too that the PLCC package is also pretty easy to find in the US, but it is too big for my needs at about 4mm x 4mm :( Try these source Capt. alpineaustralia
I seems to have developed a knack for sourcing parts in this hobby. I am not sure what to do with them, but I seem to be able to source them. Link to comment

I've searched eBay a gazillion times it seems for this product, using terms that appear in ledbaron's listing, and yet…never saw his stuff, not once. Link to comment

quinntopia
I was following this thread as I'm still learning about the wonderful world of LED's, and I found some SMD's that are pre-wired at this outfit: http://www.trainaidsa.com/ $2.00 for a wired SMD is not bad for me (I have soldered some of these before, and its a bit nerve wracking!)! http://www.trainaidsa.com/shop-leds.html Not sure if they have the same thing the Captain is looking for, but they arrived in 4 days! They've also got LED strips and other interesting devices for model railroading. Link to comment
serenityFan
Old thread, but I am looking for cheap SMD LEDs now, found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/500-x-SMD-LED-0805-warmweiss-sunnywhite-Widerstaende_W0QQitemZ380160878347QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBauteile?hash=item58835aa70b&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14 works out quiet cheap .2 EUR / led or .35 AUD / led, but I don't need 500. Anyone interested in SMD LEDs? If we can maybe split it 5 ways, 100 LEDs per person and you can light your train/layout on a budget Or of course alternatively, anyone know a different source for these LEDs which is not too expensive? Thanks.... Link to comment

Trainaids is a great source for odd stuff like this. good prices and interesting stuff thats hard to source elsewhere! hes a good guy, met him a few times (he live here in the DC area). He is also the US distributor now for T Gauge! I have some of his strip leds to play with. nice units. also nice to have the smleds prewired as soldering onto these requires a good iron and practice. cheers jeff Link to comment

The ebay link that I had before sells the 0805 SMDs. Capt. in the original post I think wanted 1206 SMDs which are a bit bigger then the 0805. Unfortunately ledbaron no longer has 1206 in sunny white. Are the 0805 SMDs at least big enough to solder? Link to comment
cteno4
sorry i should have read the original message better. just wanted to put a plug in for trainaids as they have good stuff! yes there are a lot of smleds out there! i tried a few months back to figure out the ins and outs and sources some and got confused fast and gave up for now! too many projects going and it was not apparent or easy so put aside for now. Will be interested to hear what folks find out here! cheers jeff Link to comment
CaptOblivious
I'm game---I'd split this lot 5 ways with some others, as I not only need 1206, but 0805 as well. Maybe even some smaller. I have some 0805 in other colors, and if you can solder wires to 1206's, soldering wires to 0805's really isn't that much harder. (Which is to say you'd best have a steady hand!) serenityFan
The 500 pack is still cheaper O well, if there are other people interested in splitting the 500 pack I'll still do that, if there are no takers, i can get the smaller pack. So, anyone else? Link to comment
