Sacto1985
Hiroden had their "LRT Festival" open house at their main yard in Senda in Hiroshima on 9 June 2013. YouTube member nimo5--who's done excellent work--just posted a video of the scenes around the open house: Note tram #651--this tram, along with #652, was supposedly damaged beyond repair from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Both trams were rebuilt and put back into service, and they are considered symbols of the rebirth of Hiroshima after that fateful day nearly 68 years ago. 3 Link to comment
cteno4
wow, these open houses are great! would be so much fun to catch one sometime. It really is wonderful for the public to see all this and learn more about the system, how it works, and what has to be done to keep it going. Really gives a community a deeper sense of pride in their infrastructure. nimo5 does such nice video! thanks sacto jeff Link to comment
Sacto1985
I wish this festival would also cater to foreigners because the Hiroden system runs many historic trams--think of the San Francisco Muni F Wharves line but on a city-wide scale. Foreigners would love be here to see all those older trams bought from former trolley systems throughout Japan.... Edited June 14, 2013 by Sacto1985 Link to comment
bill937ca
Hiroden did bring a fair number of the old trams up from Eba depot. There was 101, 238, 582 and 1156 all of which only rarely see service. For some reason the tram systems seem to have there open days in June and railway open days are concentrated in October with some others anytime from March to November. Hankai Tramway recently had a open day. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
I wish this festival would also cater to foreigners because the Hiroden system runs many historic trams Most of the foreigners visiting Japan (the majority of are from Asia) are not particularly interested in trams or trains for that matter. As for the scheduling of open days- typically they are done before it gets really hot outside (before or at the beginning of the rainy season). When you have many visitors being families with small children you don't want kiddies getting dehydrated. Railway events are clustered in the fall because it's cooler and the national railway day is in October. Link to comment

Couldn't they be thought of as a symbol of the rebirth of Japan as a whole after WWII? Cheers NB Edited June 15, 2013 by Nick_Burman Link to comment
bill937ca
I posted this on my tram blog today. Thought I had posted a long time ago. Oh, well I found the bookmarks. Much of Hiroden's historic fleet is stored at Eba depot at the end of routes 6 and 8. KumoKiha shares these videos from You Tube. Link to comment
