bill937ca
This is another short Tokyo area line. Its a 5.7 km single track line in Chiba Prefecture linking the Joban line with the city of Nagareyama. Equipment is ex-Seibu. It is unusual by Japanese standards for several reasons: as an independent railway operator Ryutetsu is unique for having no major subsidiary businesses PASMO and Suica contactless smartcards cannot be used and there are no plans to introduce them Ryutetsu is the only railway in Japan without an official web site Edited June 4, 2013 by bill937ca 3 Link to comment
Nick_Burman
This pike seems to headed by a Japanese version of William Henry Vanderbilt ("The public be damned!") :-) Does Tsukuba Express take PASMO and Suica? If so, no small wonder people took to riding TX rather than Ryutetsu + JR Joban line...one seat and one ticket all the way to downtown Tokyo... Cheers NB Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Tsukuba Express does take the IC cards. It is remarkable that this railway manages to stay alive, despite the declining ridership. Perhaps, the JR East Railway Museum could consider purchasing this line, much like they had considered purchasing the Kurihara Den-en Line in Miyagi Pref. before an earthquake killed some of their staff on a visit.
