Tomix lights

I've got the newly re-released Tomix ５８３系 on the way, but with 99% of my fleet being Kato, I'm not sure which lights to use.

室内照明ユニット <0755>LA ×4 <0756>LB ×1 常点灯室内照明ユニット <0783>LA-CL ×4 <0784>LB-CL ×1 常点灯室内照明ユニット白 <0733>LC ×5

 

I assume CL is the Constant Lighting system, so I guess that since I have a simple Kato controller, there's no point.  Prefer to go with LEDs, so possibly 0733 is the right way to go?  Are these the right colour?

Sure, there's a point. There are several versions of the Tomix CL system among the company's history of power controllers. In general, and simply stated, what all of them do is use PWM (pulse width modulation, like many electronic controllers do these days) for control, and in some manner allow you to dial in a minimum setting that lights the lights without spinning the motor. This was more difficult  in the old days with 12V incandescent light bulbs than it is today with LEDs.

 

Yes, go with LEDs. According to my 2013 Tomix Guide catalog, all the 583 sets I see in it (92325, 92326, 92327, 92328, 92841, 92849, 92850 and 92851) are specified to use the 0733 LED lighting kit.

I saw somewhere that the lights in the 581/583 prototype sets should be closer to incandescent globe colour rather than fluorescent white, so would 0734/0738 be a better match (given that I was asking about colour above)?

Very nice choice.  Which organization have you selected? 

 

I have the 13 car organization based on Kuhane 583 (92326, 92327, 2 x 92328, 8915 & 8916).  So spectacular.  I have also the same consist in Kato (10-395, 2 x 10-396, 4084-1, 4086-1).  Tomix has superior quality, but Kato is more economical.  Unfortunately, my Kato is not DCC Friendly. :(

I have chosen the 12 car organisation Kuhane 581 (92325, 92327, 92328, 2x 8915, 8916) to represent SUISEI.

 

I hope the 0734/0738 lights will be the right choice (unless someone advises me otherwise).
