Darklighter
Do you know any JNR era prototypes for a long industrial spur like this one: http://mrhpub.com/2013-05-may/land/#/96/zoomed What are the correct Japanese terms for "industrial spur" and "siding"? Link to comment
miyakoji
Darklighter, that link doesn't work for me. What's it all about? This is a very interesting topic, although I'd think many of these lines are not really really long. How many km are you thinking? In Japanese I think the best things to search on are shisen 支線 or maybe kamotsu shisen 貨物支線. Here are a few links I found: Hachinohe freight spur(s): http://www.cafe-dragoon.net/trip/rosen/hachinohe_line/old_minato.html a bypass line connecting the Tokaido and Chuo lines in Nagoya: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/tcuemurap62/12388628.html?type=folderlist I've posted twice about this sort of thing: http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/4728-former-right-of-ways/ and http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/5653-former-right-of-ways-japan-tobacco-and-salt-nagoya-factory/ Link to comment

Darklighter
Darklighter, that link doesn't work for me. What's it all about? It's an article about an (US prototype) one-turnout switching layout published in Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine. It depicts a bakery complex with a simple but long spur that features 10 car spots. You can download the complete issue here: http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/13768 (it's free) Thanks for your links! Edited May 12, 2013 by Darklighter Link to comment
Jcarlton
There's a print shop in the North side of Tokyo that had a long spur like that and used to receive paper trains through Oji station. There used to be a website called MJFT with wonderful JR freight videos including several of this operation, but it's been gone for years. The spur shows up on google maps, just go to Oji sation and go North a little. Edited May 13, 2013 by Jcarlton Link to comment
