miyakoji
Thanks Bill. I've seen some photos and brief text on the equipment on-board, but I'd really like to see a thorough documentary on it! :) 1 Link to comment
bill937ca
Your welcome miyakoji. In the translated text on You Tube he mentions there are plans for a new train and at that time he thinks it will be scrapped. So many videos at Golden Week! :) Link to comment
bronzeonion
I presume that is a conversion from a 485 series? Link to comment
miyakoji
Two 2-car sets were built new by Kinki Sharyo, and on the break-up of JNR, JR West got one, JR East got the other. JR East has retired their train, but JR West is still running this one. It's based at Suita, and is also used on the electrified lines of JR Shikoku, JR Kyushu, Hisatsu Orange Railway, and Toyama Chitetsu. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%9B%BD%E9%89%84443%E7%B3%BB%E9%9B%BB%E8%BB%8A 1 Link to comment

bikkuri bahn
Good stuff. Love the pantograph on the driving motor car just behind the turret cab (I've got a weak spot for any kumoha types). As it's a JNR type, you also get the classic emu sound- blowers and the quite apparent "clack" sound of the cam switches on the rheostatic control when accelerating.
