From the Vicom You Tube channel comes footage of  a 1999 shipment of a transformer to Kyushu Electric Power with a DE10 and 370 overweight drop center flat car.

That's a great video, Bill. It's actually not a drop center flat car, but a Schnabel-type car. In effect it has no center, and the transformer is designed to become the center part of the car for transport. It was interesting to see the car operate both with and without the transformer in place, and also the "do it like an Egyptian" method of rolling the transformer laterally off the track.

You know what, recently a bus fell off some lifting gear in a neighbouring city. (they are placed on top of it for repairs at the underside) They couldn't get the bus straight up on its tires so they used the same method to roll it out of the garage and lift it with a crane outside.

Cool.  It's シキ (shi-ki) 370.  I hadn't run across that one before.  Per Japanese wikipedia, it was built 1961 and scrapped 2003. Micro Ace did a model of the 600 a couple of years ago, which is similar (I have one) except for having 24 axles instead of 16. The also made a model of the 810, which was closer to the 370 in capacity.

and moving the transformer with pipe rollers to a truck transporter

and all the lifting with just jacks (crane only to pull off the side bars)

would be a very cool scene to model!
