I was watching some Amtrak prototype videos and stumbled across this Youtube channel.

Although he doesn't post a video often, they are really great. His videos are from many places in the world and taken with large camera angles, rather than the small angles you often see in train videos.

I wonder was the scenes from the first video taken just south of Minakami Station on the Jōetsu Line....

If you use the 3D setting "Side by side" with Half width and look with your eyes at the very center of the picture (the line between both images) you will be able to see 3D. Something you need to do though is try to not focus with your eyes anywhere, let your eyes rest.

I reckon yes, the departure is from Minakami Station.
